Tafsir Jalalayn : when (idh is semantically connected to rahma, ‘mercy’) he called out to his Lord a call, entailing a supplication, in secret, in the middle of the night, because this [time of the night] invites a faster response [to one’s supplication]. 19:4Hassanor Alapa : Sa pitharo iyan a: Kadnan ko mataan a sakn na miakalobay so tolan akn ago komiarab so olo sa kiapakapoti o bok sa da ako maadn ko kaphamangni rka Kadnan ko i ba (ako) maoola 769 Muhsin Khan : Saying: "My Lord! Pickthall : Saying: My Lord! Lo! the bones of me wax feeble and my head is shining with grey hair, and I have never been unblest in prayer to Thee, my Lord. Yusuf Ali : Praying: "O my Lord! infirm indeed are my bones, and the hair of my head doth glisten with grey: but never am I unblest, O my Lord, in my prayer to Thee! Shakir : He said: My Lord! surely my bones are weakened and my head flares with hoariness, and, my Lord! I have never been unsuccessful in my prayer to Thee: Dr. Ghali : He said, "Lord! Surely the bone (s) within me have become feeble, and my head is turned white with hoary (hair) (Literally: is aflame with hoary "hair") and I have not been wretched in invoking you, Lord! Tafsir Jalalayn : He said, ‘My Lord, truly the bones, all [the bones], within me have become feeble, weak, and my head is alight with grey hair (shayban, a specification derived from the subject of the verb in other words, hoariness has spread throughout his hairs just as a spark of fire spreads through firewood) and I wish to supplicate to you, and I have never been in my supplications to You, my Lord, unsuccessful, that is, [I have never been] disappointed, in the past, so do not disappoint me in what follows. Tagalog : Kanyang sinabi: Aking ‘Rabb!’ Ako ay tumanda na at uugud-ugod na, na mahina na ang aking mga buto, at kumalat na ang mga puting buhok sa aking ulunan, at kailanman ay hindi Mo tinanggihan ang aking mga panalangin noon sa Iyo, O aking ‘Rabb!’ 19:5Hassanor Alapa : Go inikalk akn so manga tonganay akn ko oriyan akn a so karoma ko na balk na bgi ako Nka sa phoon Rka a phangwali rakn (ko oriyan o kapatay). I fear my kinsfolk after me, since my wife is barren. Oh, give me from Thy presence a successor Yusuf Ali : "Now I fear (what) my relatives (and colleagues) (will do) after me: but my wife is barren: so give me an heir as from Thyself,- Shakir : And surely I fear my cousins after me, and my wife is barren, therefore grant me from Thyself an heir, Dr. Ghali : And surely I fear my patronized (relatives) beyond me, (i.e., after I am gone) and my wife is barren. So bestow upon me, from very close to You, a constant patron (Some take it to mean a nephew or kinsman) Tafsir Jalalayn : And truly I fear my kinsfolk, namely, those who will succeed me [as closest after me] in kinship, such as [my] paternal cousins, after me, that is, after my death, [I fear] for the religion, lest they forsake it, as You have witnessed in the case of the Children of Israel, in the way that they changed [their] religion, and my wife is barren, she does not conceive. 19:6Hassanor Alapa : A khawarisan ako niyan ago phakawaris ko (pd ko) pamiliya o 770 Ya’qūb, ago baloy Anka skaniyan Kadnan ko a masosoat (Rka) Muhsin Khan : "Who shall inherit me, and inherit (also) the posterity of Ya'qub (Jacob) (inheritance of the religious knowledge and Prophethood, not the wealth, etc.). Pickthall : Who shall inherit of me and inherit (also) of the house of Jacob. And make him, my Lord, acceptable (unto Thee). Yusuf Ali : "(One that) will (truly) represent me, and represent the posterity of Jacob; and make him, O my Lord! one with whom Thou art well-pleased!" Shakir : Who should inherit me and inherit from the children of Yaqoub, and make him, my Lord, one in whom Thou art well pleased. Dr. Ghali : Who will inherit of me and inherit (also) of the house of Yaaqub; (Jacob) and make him, Lord, well satisfied." Tafsir Jalalayn : who may inherit from me (read yarithnī in apocopated form as a response to the imperative statement [fa-hab lī, ‘grant me’], or read yarithunī as an adjectival qualification of waliyyan, ‘a successor’) and inherit (also read in both ways [mentioned]), from the House of Jacob, my forefather, [inherit] knowledge and prophethood, and make him, my Lord, acceptable’, that is, pleasing to you. 19:7Hassanor Alapa : Hay Zakariyyā mataan a Skami na phanotholan Ami ska sa (moriataw) a bagowa mama a aya ngaran iyan na so Yahyā da a inadn Ami ron sa miaona a sangay (niyan) 771 Muhsin Khan : (Allah said) "O Zakariya (Zachariah)! Sahih International : [He was told], "O Zechariah, indeed We give you good tidings of a boy whose name will be John. We have not assigned to any before [this] name." Pickthall : (It was said unto him): O Zachariah! Lo! We bring thee tidings of a son whose name is John; we have given the same name to none before (him). Yusuf Ali : (His prayer was answered): "O Zakariya! We give thee good news of a son: His name shall be Yahya: on none by that name have We conferred distinction before." Shakir : O Zakariya! surely We give you good news of a boy whose name shall be Yahya: We have not made before anyone his equal. Dr. Ghali : "O Zakariyya, surely We give you good tidings of a youth whose name is Yahya (John). No namesake have We given him earlier." Tafsir Jalalayn : God, exalted be He, in responding to his request for a son that will be the incarnation of His mercy, says: ‘O Zachariah! Indeed We give you good tidings of a boy, who will inherit in the way that you have requested — whose name is John. Never before have We made anyone his namesake’, that is, [never has there been] anyone with the name ‘John’. Tagalog : (Sinabi ng Allâh O Zakariyyâ! Katiyakan, ipinagkakaloob Namin sa iyo ang magandang balita bilang katugunan sa iyong panalangin, na walang pag-aalinlangang ipagkakaloob Namin sa iyo ang bata na ang kanyang magiging pangalan ay si Yahyâ (as), na hindi pa Kami nagbigay ng ganitong pangalan sa sinuman na nauna sa kanya. 19:8Hassanor Alapa : Na pitharo iyan a Kadnan ko andamanaya i ka khaadni rakn sa wata a mama a so karoma ko na balk ago 772 inisampay ako ko kialoks a kiamaraan Muhsin Khan : He said: "My Lord! Sahih International : He said, "My Lord, how will I have a boy when my wife has been barren and I have reached extreme old age?" Pickthall : He said: My Lord! How can I have a son when my wife is barren and I have reached infirm old age? Yusuf Ali : He said: "O my Lord! How shall I have a son, when my wife is barren and I have grown quite decrepit from old age?" Shakir : He said: O my Lord! when shall I have a son, and my wife is barren, and I myself have reached indeed the extreme degree of old age? Dr. Ghali : He said, "Lord! However can I have a youth and my wife is barren, and I have already reached the decrepitude of old age?" Tafsir Jalalayn : He said, ‘My Lord, how shall I have a son when my wife is barren and I have reached infirm old age?’ (‘itiyyan, [derives] from [the verb] ‘atā, ‘it became withered’) in other words, [he had reached] extreme old age, 120 years; and his wife had reached the age of 98 (‘atiya in terms of its root derives from ‘utuwwun, but the tā’ is vowelled as -ti-, to soften it, the first wāw [vowel] is changed into a yā’ to be in harmony with the –ti- vowelling, while the second [wāw letter] is changed into a yā’ so that the [previous] yā’ can be assimilated with it). 19:9Hassanor Alapa : Na pitharo iyan a datar oto a pitharo o Kadnan ka a skaniyan sii Rakn na malbod a sabnar a inadn Akn ska sa miaona adi ka maaadn a nganin Muhsin Khan : He said: "So (it will be). Sahih International : [An angel] said, "Thus [it will be]; your Lord says, 'It is easy for Me, for I created you before, while you were nothing.' " Pickthall : He said: So (it will be). Thy Lord saith: It is easy for Me, even as I created thee before, when thou wast naught. Yusuf Ali : He said: "So (it will be) thy Lord saith, 'that is easy for Me: I did indeed create thee before, when thou hadst been nothing!'" Shakir : He said: So shall it be, your Lord says: It is easy to Me, and indeed I created you before, when you were nothing. Dr. Ghali : He said, "Thus (it will be) your Lord has said. Simple is it for Me, and I already created you, earlier, and you were nothing." Tafsir Jalalayn : He said, ‘It, the matter [in question], of creating a boy from both of you, shall be so! Your Lord says, “It is easy for Me, namely, to restore your sexual potency and tear open your wife’s womb [in preparation] for conception, for I certainly created you before when you were nothing”’, [you were nothing] before your created form became manifest. As God wished to manifest this great power, He inspired him [the form of] the question, in order for him to receive the response that will indicate it [this power]. And when his soul yearned for the prompt arrival of that whereof he had been given good tidings: Tagalog : Sinabi ng anghel bilang pagtugon sa pagkamangha ni Zakariyyâ: Ganoon ang tunay na pangyayari na tulad ng iyong sinasabi na pagiging baog ng iyong asawa at pag-abot mo sa matinding katandaan, subali’t ang iyong ‘Rabb’ ay nagsabi: Ang paglikha kay Yahyâ sa ganitong pamamaraan ay napakadali para sa Allâh, pagkatapos ipinaalaala ng Allâh kay Zakariyyâ ang mas nakagugulat kaysa sa kanyang tinatanong, na Kanyang sinabi: Katiyakan, nilikha kita noon bago pa kay Yahyâ, samantalang ikaw ay wala. 19:10Hassanor Alapa : Na pitharo iyan a Kadnan ko bgi ako Nka sa tanda (ko kakhaogat o karoma ko) na pitharo Iyan a aya tanda aka na so di nka kipmbitiarain ko manga taw sa tlo a manga 773 kagagawii a thondotondog (sa khada so lagam iyan sa giimakapaginsarat). Muhsin Khan : [Zakariya (Zachariah)] said: "My Lord! Appoint for me a sign." He said: "Your sign is that you shall not speak unto mankind for three nights, though having no bodily defect." Sahih International : [Zechariah] said, "My Lord, make for me a sign." He said, "Your sign is that you will not speak to the people for three nights, [being] sound." Pickthall : He said: My Lord! Appoint for me some token. He said: Thy token is that thou, with no bodily defect, shalt not speak unto mankind three nights. Yusuf Ali : (Zakariya) said: "O my Lord! give me a Sign." "Thy Sign," was the answer, "Shall be that thou shalt speak to no man for three nights, although thou art not dumb." Shakir : He said: My Lord! give me a sign. He said: Your sign is that you will not be able to speak to the people three nights while in sound health. Dr. Ghali : He said, "Lord! Make for me (some) sign." Said He, "Your sign is that you shall not speak to (any of) mankind, though being in perfect shape, (i.e. being without fault, or defect; literally: in "perfect" mold) three nights." Tafsir Jalalayn : He said, ‘Lord, appoint for me some sign’, namely, some indication of my wife’s becoming pregnant. Said He, ‘Your sign, for this, is that you shall not speak to people, that is, that you [should] refrain from speaking to them, but not [from speaking] the remembrance of God, exalted be He, for three nights, that is, together with the days thereof, as [stated] in [sūrat] Āl ‘Imrān, ‘for three days’ [Q. 3:41], while [you are] in sound health’ (sawiyyan, a circumstantial qualifier referring to the subject of the verb tukallima, ‘you shall [not] speak’) in other words, despite there being no defect [in you]. Tagalog : Sinabi ni Zakariyyâ bilang karagdagan na pagkakatiyak: O aking ‘Rabb!’ Pagkalooban Mo ako ng tanda na magkakatotoo ang magandang balita na ibinalita sa akin ng mga anghel. Kanyang sinabi: Ang palatandaan ay hindi mo kayang makipag-usap sa mga tao sa loob ng tatlong gabi at tatlong araw samantalang ikaw ay walang sakit. 19:11Hassanor Alapa : Na lominiyo ko pagtaw niyan a phoon ko mihrāb na inipagin-sarat iyan kiran a panasbih kano ko kapitapita ago sii ko kagabigabi Muhsin Khan : Then he came out to his people from Al-Mihrab (a praying place or a private room, etc.), he told them by signs to glorify Allah's Praises in the morning and in the afternoon. Sahih International : So he came out to his people from the prayer chamber and signaled to them to exalt [ Allah ] in the morning and afternoon. Pickthall : Then he came forth unto his people from the sanctuary, and signified to them: Glorify your Lord at break of day and fall of night. Yusuf Ali : So Zakariya came out to his people from him chamber: He told them by signs to celebrate Allah's praises in the morning and in the evening. Shakir : So he went forth to his people from his place of worship, then he made known to them that they should glorify (Allah) morning and evening. Dr. Ghali : So he went out to his people from the Chamber, then he signified (Literally: revealed) to them, "Extol (your Lord) before sunrise and at nightfall." Tafsir Jalalayn : So he emerged before his people from the sanctuary, that is, from the temple — they had been waiting for him to open it in order to perform [their] prayers therein after his command, as was the custom — and signalled, indicated, to them, ‘Make glorifications, perform prayers, at morning and evening’, at the beginning of the day and [at] its end, as per usual. He then realised, upon his being prevented from speaking to them, that she was pregnant with John. Tagalog : Lumabas si Zakariyyâ mula sa ‘Mihrâb’ – na ito ang lugar na kanyang pinagdarasalan na kung saan sa lugar na ito ipinagkaloob sa kanya ang balita na siya ay magkakaroon ng anak – na humarap sa kanyang sambayanan at kanyang isinenyas sa kanila, na purihin nila ang Allâh sa umaga at sa hapon bilang pagpapasalamat sa Kanya. 19:12Hassanor Alapa : Hay Yahyā kowa anka so Kitab sa mabagr ago inibgay Ami ron so sabot ko Tawrāh 774 a skaniyan na bagowamama pn Muhsin Khan : (It was said to his son): "O Yahya (John)! Hold fast the Scripture [the Taurat (Torah)]." And We gave him wisdom while yet a child. Sahih International : [ Allah ] said, "O John, take the Scripture with determination." And We gave him judgement [while yet] a boy Pickthall : (And it was said unto his son): O John! Hold fast the Scripture. And we gave him wisdom when a child, Yusuf Ali : (To his son came the command): "O Yahya! take hold of the Book with might": and We gave him Wisdom even as a youth, Shakir : O Yahya! take hold of the Book with strength, and We granted him wisdom while yet a child Dr. Ghali : "O Yahya, (John) take the Book powerfully." And We brought him judgment (when) a young boy, Tafsir Jalalayn : And two years after his birth, God, exalted be He, said to him: ‘O John! Hold on to the Scripture, namely, the Torah, firmly’, earnestly. And We gave him judgement, prophethood, while still a child, a three-year old; Tagalog : (Sinabi niya sa kanyang anak): O Yahyâ! Panghawakan mo ang ‘Tawrah’ nang mahigpit at magsumigasig ka sa pagpapatupad nito, pagsasaulo at pag-iintindi ng mga talata nito. At pinagkalooban Namin siya ng karunungan at tamang pagkakaunawa habang siya ay maliit pa lamang. 19:13Hassanor Alapa : Ago gagaw a phoon Rkami ago kasosoti ago miaadn a manananggila 775 Muhsin Khan : And (made him) sympathetic to men as a mercy (or a grant) from Us, and pure from sins [i.e. Yahya (John)] and he was righteous, Sahih International : And affection from Us and purity, and he was fearing of Allah Pickthall : And compassion from Our presence, and purity; and he was devout, Yusuf Ali : And piety (for all creatures) as from Us, and purity: He was devout, Shakir : And tenderness from Us and purity, and he was one who guarded (against evil), Dr. Ghali : And a sympathy from very close to Us, and cleanliness. And he was pious, Tafsir Jalalayn : and compassion, a mercy for mankind, from Us, from Our presence, and purity, a charity for them, and he was God-fearing — it is related that he never committed a sin, nor contemplated [committing] one; Tagalog : At pinagkalooban Namin siya ng awa at pagmamahal mula sa Amin, at kadalisayan na malayo mula sa mga pagkakasala, at siya ay may takot na sumusunod sa Allâh, na isinasagawa ang mga ipinag-uutos at iniiwasan ang Kanyang ipinagbabawal. 19:14Hassanor Alapa : Ago bilangataw ko mbalaa loks iyan ago da maadn a baradosa a barasopak Muhsin Khan : And dutiful towards his parents, and he was neither an arrogant nor disobedient (to Allah or to his parents). Yusuf Ali : And kind to his parents, and he was not overbearing or rebellious. Shakir : And dutiful to his parents, and he was not insolent, disobedient. Dr. Ghali : And benign to his parents, and he was not arrogant, disobedient. Tafsir Jalalayn : and dutiful to his parents, that is, virtuous towards them. And he was not arrogant or rebellious, disobedient to his Lord. Tagalog : At siya ay mabuti at magalang sa kanyang mga magulang at sumusunod sa kanila, at hindi siya nagmamataas sa pagsunod niya sa kanyang ‘Rabb’ at ganoon din sa kanyang mga magulang, na siya ay ganap na sumusunod sa kanyang ‘Rabb’ na Tagapaglikha at sa kanyang mga magulang. 19:15Hassanor Alapa : So kalilintad na sii rkaniyan ko gawii a kinimbawa-taan on ago so gawii a kaphatay niyan ago so gawii a pagoyagn on a oyagoyag Muhsin Khan : So Peace on him the day he was born the day that he dies and the day that he will be raised up to life (again)! Sahih International : And peace be upon him the day he was born and the day he dies and the day he is raised alive. Pickthall : Peace on him the day he was born, and the day he dieth and the day he shall be raised alive! Yusuf Ali : So Peace on him the day he was born, the day that he dies, and the day that he will be raised up to life (again)! Shakir : And peace on him on the day he was born, and on the day he dies, and on the day he is raised to life Dr. Ghali : And peace be upon him, the day he was begotten and the day he dies, and the day he is made to rise again alive! Tafsir Jalalayn : ‘And peace, from Us, be upon him, the day he was born, and the day he dies, and the day he shall be raised alive!’, that is, [on] those fearful days in which he sees what he will never have seen before — in these he will be given security [from fear]. Tagalog : At kapayapaan mula sa Allâh para kay Yahyâ (as) at kaligtasan para sa kanya mula sa araw na siya ay ipinanganak, at sa araw na siya ay mamamatay at sa araw na siya ay bubuhayin na mag-uli mula sa libingan. 19:16Hassanor Alapa : Go pananadm inka ko kitab so Maryam gowani a somibay 776 ko pamiliya niyan sa darpa a matatampar sa sbangan. Shakir : And mention Marium in the Book when she drew aside from her family to an eastern place; Dr. Ghali : And mention in the Book Maryam (Mary) as she retired from her family to an eastern place. Tafsir Jalalayn : And mention in the Book, [in] the Qur’ān, Mary, that is, [mention] her tale, when she withdrew from her family to an easterly place, that is, [when] she secluded herself in a place on the east side of [her] home. Tagalog : At ipahayag mo, O Muhammad, ang kuwento hinggil kay Maryam (alayhas salâm) na nasa Banal na Qur’ân noong siya ay lumayo sa kanyang pamilya, na siya ay nagtungo sa karatig na lugar sa gawing silangan. 19:17Hassanor Alapa : Sa kominowa ko mawatan kiran sa rnding na siogo Ami ron so malāikat sa mianiaropaan on sa mama a mbabatang Muhsin Khan : She placed a screen (to screen herself) from them; then We sent to her Our Ruh [angel Jibrael (Gabriel)], and he appeared before her in the form of a man in all respects. Tafsir Jalalayn : It is not [befitting] for God to take to Himself a son. Glory be to Him — in affirmation of His being transcendent above [doing] such a thing. When He decrees a thing, that is, [when] He will for it to happen, He only says to it, ‘Be!’, and it is (read fa-yakūnu because of an implied [pronoun] huwa [sc. fa-huwa yakūnu]; or read fa-yakūna because of an implied an [sc. an yakūna]). An example of this is His creating Jesus without [his having had] a father. Shakir : And surely Allah is my Lord and your Lord, therefore serve Him; this is the right path. Dr. Ghali : And surely Allah is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him. This is a straight Path." Tafsir Jalalayn : And indeed God is my Lord and your Lord. So worship Him (read [the introductory particle] as anna, with an implicit [preceding] udhkur, ‘mention’; or read [it] as inna, with an implicit [preceding] qul, ‘say’, [a reading] indicated by [the fact that God says elsewhere] ‘I only said to them that which You commanded me: “Worship God, my Lord and your Lord” ’ [Q. 5:117]). Sahih International : Then the factions differed [concerning Jesus] from among them, so woe to those who disbelieved - from the scene of a tremendous Day. Pickthall : The sects among them differ: but woe unto the disbelievers from the meeting of an awful Day. Yusuf Ali : But the sects differ among themselves: and woe to the unbelievers because of the (coming) Judgment of a Momentous Day! Shakir : But parties from among them disagreed with each other, so woe to those who disbelieve, because of presence on a great day. Dr. Ghali : Yet the parties have differed among themselves; so woe to the ones who have disbelieved for the witnessing of a tremendous Day! Tafsir Jalalayn : But the factions differed among themselves, that is to say, the Christians, [they differed] regarding Jesus: was he the son of God? A god alongside Him? Or [was he] the third of three [gods]? So woe — [meaning] severe punishment [will be meted out] — to those who disbelieve, [those who disbelieve] in the way mentioned and in other ways, at the scene of an awful Day, that is to say, [woe to them] when they are present at the Day of Resurrection and [witnessing] its terrors. Tafsir Jalalayn : For by your Lord, We will surely gather them, namely, the deniers of the Resurrection, and the devils, that is to say, We shall gather every one of them with his devil [bound together] in a chain; then We shall bring them around Hell, [around] the outside of it, crouching, on their knees ([jithiyyan is] the plural of jāthin, and is originally [formed as] jathawuwwin or jathawiyyun [deriving] from [the verb] jathā, [imperfect tense] yajthu or yajthī, two [variant] forms). 19:69Hassanor Alapa : Oriyan iyan na ginsingn Ami ko oman i salompok so skaniyan i mitataralo ko Makalimoon i kasosopak Muhsin Khan : Then indeed We shall drag out from every sect all those who were worst in obstinate rebellion against the Most Beneficent (Allah). Pickthall : Then We shall pluck out from every sect whichever of them was most stubborn in rebellion to the Beneficent. Yusuf Ali : Then shall We certainly drag out from every sect all those who were worst in obstinate rebellion against (Allah) Most Gracious. Shakir : Then We will most certainly draw forth from every sect of them him who is most exorbitantly rebellious against the Beneficent Allah. Dr. Ghali : Thereafter indeed We will definitely draw out from every sect whichever of them was the most strict in rebellion against The All-Merciful. Tafsir Jalalayn : Then We shall pluck out from every party, every sect, whichever of them was most hardened in disdain, in insolence, of the Compassionate One. 19:70Hassanor Alapa : Oriyan iyan na Skami i lbi a lawan i katawi ko siran oto a siran i taralbi ron a pagiawn (ko apoy o Naraka). Pickthall : And surely We are Best Aware of those most worthy to be burned therein. Yusuf Ali : And certainly We know best those who are most worthy of being burned therein. Shakir : Again We do certainly know best those who deserve most to be burned therein. Dr. Ghali : Thereafter indeed We know best the ones most deserving to roast constantly therein. Tafsir Jalalayn : Then indeed We shall know best those most deserving of it, most worthy of [being in] Hell, the most hardened of them and others [like them], for the burning, for the admission [into it] and the scorching [therein], and We shall start with them ([siliyyan is] originally [formed as] salawiyyun, from [the verb] saliya or salaya). Sahih International : And there is none of you except he will come to it. This is upon your Lord an inevitability decreed. Pickthall : There is not one of you but shall approach it. That is a fixed ordinance of thy Lord. Yusuf Ali : Not one of you but will pass over it: this is, with thy Lord, a Decree which must be accomplished. Shakir : And there is not one of you but shall come to it; this is an unavoidable decree of your Lord. Dr. Ghali : And decidedly not one of you (there is), except that he will go (herded) down to it; that, for your Lord, has been a thing decreed, a must. Tafsir Jalalayn : There is not one of you but shall come to it, that is, [but] shall enter Hell. That is an inevitability [already] decreed by your Lord, [something which] He made inevitable and [which] He decreed; He will not waive it. 19:72Hassanor Alapa : Oriyan iyan na pakaapasn Ami so siran oto a miamananggila na ibagak Ami so manga pananakoto sii ko Naraka a khipakakokodong on Muhsin Khan : Then We shall save those who use to fear Allah and were dutiful to Him. Sahih International : Then We will save those who feared Allah and leave the wrongdoers within it, on their knees. Pickthall : Then We shall rescue those who kept from evil, and leave the evil-doers crouching there. Yusuf Ali : But We shall save those who guarded against evil, and We shall leave the wrong-doers therein, (humbled) to their knees. Shakir : And We will deliver those who guarded (against evil), and We will leave the unjust therein on their knees. Dr. Ghali : Thereafter We will safely deliver the ones who were pious and leave behind the unjust (ones), (abjectly) kneeling. Tafsir Jalalayn : Then We will deliver (read nunajjī or nunjī) those who were wary, of [committing] idolatry or disbelief, [We will deliver them] from it, and leave those who did wrong, by way of idolatry and disbelief, crouching therein, on their knees. 19:73Hassanor Alapa : A igira biatiya kiran so manga tanda Ami a manga rarayag na tharoon o siran oto a manga kafir ko siran oto a miamaratiaya a antaa ko dowa a lompokan i mapia i pankatan ago mapia i darpa Muhsin Khan : And when Our Clear Verses are recited to them, those who disbelieve (the rich and strong among the pagans of Quraish who live a life of luxury) say to those who believe (the weak, poor companions of Prophet Muhammad SAW who have a hard life): "Which of the two groups (i.e. believers and disbelievers) is best in (point of) position and as regards station (place of council for consultation)." Sahih International : And when Our verses are recited to them as clear evidences, those who disbelieve say to those who believe, "Which of [our] two parties is best in position and best in association?" Pickthall : And when Our clear revelations are recited unto them, those who disbelieve say unto those who believe: Which of the two parties (yours or ours) is better in position, and more imposing as an army? Yusuf Ali : When Our Clear Signs are rehearsed to them, the Unbelievers say to those who believe, "Which of the two sides is best in point of position? Which makes the best show in council?" Shakir : And when Our clear communications are recited to them, those who disbelieve say to those who believe: Which of the two parties is best in abiding and best in assembly? Dr. Ghali : And when Our ayat (Verses or signs) are recited to them as supremely evident (signs), the ones who have disbelieved say to the ones who have believed, "Whichever of the two groups is more charitable (i.e., better) in station and fairer council?" Tafsir Jalalayn : And when Our manifest, evident (bayyinātin, ‘manifest’, is a circumstantial qualifier) signs, in the Qur’ān, are recited to them, namely, [to] the believers and the disbelievers, those who disbelieve say to those who believe, ‘Which of the two parties — us or you — is better in station, in lodging and abode (read as maqāman, it is [derived] from [the first form] qāma, ‘he stood’; read as muqāman, it is [derived] from the [fourth form] aqāma, ‘he took up residence’) and more excellent in assembly?’ (nadiyyan, meaning the place in which a folk assemble and converse). They [the disbelievers] mean ‘we [are the better of the two parties]’, and so we will fare better than you. Pickthall : How many a generation have We destroyed before them, who were more imposing in respect of gear and outward seeming! Yusuf Ali : But how many (countless) generations before them have we destroyed, who were even better in equipment and in glitter to the eye? Shakir : And how many of the generations have We destroyed before them who were better in respect of goods and outward appearance! Dr. Ghali : And how many a generation We caused to perish before them. They were fairer in furnishings and outward show! Tafsir Jalalayn : And how many — in other words, many — a generation, that is, a community from among the communities of the past, have We destroyed before them, who were superior in [their possession of] gear, in wealth and chattel, and in appearance, [superior] as a sight (ri’yan derives from [the infinitive] al-ru’ya). [This is the answer for the Verse No.19:73] Sahih International : Say, "Whoever is in error - let the Most Merciful extend for him an extension [in wealth and time] until, when they see that which they were promised - either punishment [in this world] or the Hour [of resurrection] - they will come to know who is worst in position and weaker in soldiers." Pickthall : Say: As for him who is in error, the Beneficent will verily prolong his span of life until, when they behold that which they were promised, whether it be punishment (in the world), or the Hour (of doom), they will know who is worse in position and who is weaker as an army. Yusuf Ali : Say: "If any men go astray, (Allah) Most Gracious extends (the rope) to them, until, when they see the warning of Allah (being fulfilled) - either in punishment or in (the approach of) the Hour,- they will at length realise who is worst in position, and (who) weakest in forces! Shakir : Say: As for him who remains in error, the Beneficent Allah will surely prolong his length of days, until they see what they were threatened with, either the punishment or the hour; then they shall know who is in more evil plight and weaker in forces Dr. Ghali : Say, "Whoever has been in errancy, then indeed The All-Merciful will grant him an extension of days (Literally: extend for him an extension "of days") until, when they see what they were promised, whether the torment or the Hour, then they will soon know who is in an eviler place and weaker in hosts." Tafsir Jalalayn : Say: ‘As for him who is in error (man kāna fī’l-dalālati, a conditional clause, the response to which is [fa’l-yamdud, ‘He shall prolong’ and what follows it]) the Compassionate One shall defer (fa’l-yamdud, functions in the sense of a predicate) him, from chastisement by [granting him] some respite, in this world, drawing him on [to his eventual chastisement] gradually, until, when they catch sight of that which they were promised, whether it be chastisement [in this world], by being killed or taken captive, or the Hour, the Resurrection that comprises Hell, they will enter it. Then they will surely know who is worse in [respect of] position and weaker in [respect of the number of] hosts’, in [respect of the number of] supporters, themselves or the believers? Their hosts will be the devils, while the hosts of the believers against them will be the angels. And the righteous good deeds that last, are better with your Lord, for reward and better for resort. Sahih International : And Allah increases those who were guided, in guidance, and the enduring good deeds are better to your Lord for reward and better for recourse. Pickthall : Allah increaseth in right guidance those who walk aright, and the good deeds which endure are better in thy Lord's sight for reward, and better for resort. Yusuf Ali : "And Allah doth advance in guidance those who seek guidance: and the things that endure, Good Deeds, are best in the sight of thy Lord, as rewards, and best in respect of (their) eventual return." Shakir : And Allah increases in guidance those who go aright; and ever-abiding good works are with your Lord best in recompense and best in yielding fruit. Dr. Ghali : And Allah increases the ones who have been guided in guidance. And the enduring things, the deeds of righteousness, are more charitable from the Providence of your Lord in requital and more charitable for turning back. Tafsir Jalalayn : And God increases in guidance those who found [right] guidance, through faith, [increasing them] by way of the signs He reveals to them; and the enduring things, the righteous deeds — namely, obedience [the reward of] which endures for that person — are better in your Lord’s sight in [terms of] reward, and better in [terms of the] return, that is, as something which will be repaid and returned to him [the believer], in contrast to the deeds of the disbelievers. The [use of the qualification] khayr, ‘better’, here is meant to counter [the use of the same in] their statement, ‘Which of the two parties is better in station?’ [above, Q. 19:73]. Pickthall : Hast thou seen him who disbelieveth in Our revelations and saith: Assuredly I shall be given wealth and children? Yusuf Ali : Hast thou then seen the (sort of) man who rejects Our Signs, yet says: "I shall certainly be given wealth and children?" Shakir : Have you, then, seen him who disbelieves in Our communications and says: I shall certainly be given wealth and children? Dr. Ghali : So, have you seen (him) who has disbelieved in Our signs and said, "Indeed I will definitely be brought wealth and children"? Tafsir Jalalayn : Have you seen him who disbelieves in Our signs, namely, al-‘Ās b. Shakir : By no means! We write down what he says, and We will lengthen to him the length of the chastisement Dr. Ghali : Not at all! We will soon write down whatever he says, and We will grant him an extension (Literally: extend him an extension) of torment. Tafsir Jalalayn : Nay, he shall not be given [any of] that, but We will assuredly write down, We shall command that it be written down, that which he says and prolong for him the chastisement endlessly, We shall give him because of that [claim] an extra chastisement, in addition to the chastisement for his disbelief; Tagalog : Ang katotohanan ay hindi ang katulad ng kanyang inangkin, dahil wala siyang alam at wala siyang ginawang kasunduan sa Allâh, na kung kaya, walang pag-aalinlangan, itatala Namin ang anuman na kanyang sinabing pagsisinungaling at pag-aangkin laban sa Allâh, at daragdagan Namin siya sa Kabilang-Buhay ng iba’t iba pang mga kaparusahan, na katulad ng pagkakaragdag sa kanya sa pagkaligaw. 19:80Hassanor Alapa : Ago pangwarisan Ami skaniyan ko gii niyan tharoon ago maoma Kami niyan a skaniyan na tibayo a bothong Muhsin Khan : And We shall inherit from him (at his death) all that he talks of (i.e. wealth and children which We have bestowed upon him in this world), and he shall come to Us alone. Pickthall : And they have chosen (other) gods beside Allah that they may be a power for them. Yusuf Ali : And they have taken (for worship) gods other than Allah, to give them power and glory! Shakir : And they have taken gods besides Allah, that they should be to them a source of strength; Dr. Ghali : And they have taken to themselves (other) gods apart from Allah, that they would be for them a might (i.e. that gods would make mighty). Shakir : By no means! They shall soon deny their worshipping them, and they shall be adversaries to them. Dr. Ghali : Not at all! They will soon disbelieve in their worship of them and will be opponents against them. Tafsir Jalalayn : Nay, that is to say, there is none to prevent their being chastised, but they, namely, the [idol] gods, shall reject their worship, that is, they will deny it — as [is stated] in another verse: It was not us that they used to worship [Q. 28:63]) — and they shall be [pitted] against them as opponents, enemies, supporting one another [against them]. Tagalog : At kakaladkarin (naman) Namin ang mga walang pananampalataya na may kalupitan tungo sa Impiyerno, na sila ay nasa masidhing pagkauhaw. 19:87Hassanor Alapa : Sa da a mamimilik iran a sapaat inonta bo sa taw a miakakowa sii ko Makalimoon sa kapasadan (a phakasapaat). 808 Muhsin Khan : None shall have the power of intercession, but such a one as has received permission (or promise) from the Most Beneficent (Allah). Pickthall : They will have no power of intercession, save him who hath made a covenant with his Lord. Yusuf Ali : None shall have the power of intercession, but such a one as has received permission (or promise) from (Allah) Most Gracious. Shakir : They shall not control intercession, save he who has made a covenant with the Beneficent Allah. Dr. Ghali : They do not possess (any means of) intercession, except the ones who have taken to him from the Providence of the All-Merciful a covenant. Tafsir Jalalayn : They, namely, mankind, will not have the power to intercede, save him who has made a covenant with the Compassionate One, [the covenant being] the profession of lā ilāha illā’Llāh wa-lā hawla wa-lā quwwata illā bi’Llāh, ‘there is no god but God, and there is no power or strength except in God’. Tagalog : At walang kapangyarihan ang mga walang pananampalataya na mamagitan kaninuman, subali’t ang may kapangyarihan lamang na mamagitan ay ang mga yaong tumanggap ng kapahintulutan o pinangakuan ng Pinakamahabaging Allâh, at sila ay ang mga yaong naniwala sa Allâh at sa Kanyang mga Sugo. 19:88Hassanor Alapa : Go pitharo iran a kominowa so Makalimoon sa wata a mama Muhsin Khan : And they say: "The Most Beneficent (Allah) has begotten a son (or offspring or children) [as the Jews say: 'Uzair (Ezra) is the son of Allah, and the Christians say that He has begotten a son ['Iesa (Christ) ], and the pagan Arabs say that He has begotten daughters (angels, etc.)]." Sahih International : And they say, "The Most Merciful has taken [for Himself] a son." Pickthall : And they say: The Beneficent hath taken unto Himself a son. Yusuf Ali : They say: "(Allah) Most Gracious has begotten a son!" Shakir : And they say: The Beneficent Allah has taken (to Himself) a son. Dr. Ghali : And they have said, "The All-Merciful has taken to Him a child." Tafsir Jalalayn : And they say, that is, the Jews and the Christians and those who claim that the angels are God’s daughters, ‘The Compassionate One has taken a son’. [But] God, exalted be He, says to them: Tagalog : At sinabi nila na mga walang pananampalataya: Ang Allâh na Pinakamahabagin ay nagkaroon ng anak na lalaki! 19:89Hassanor Alapa : Sabnar a inioma niyo a shayi a piakasisingay a marata 809 Muhsin Khan : Indeed you have brought forth (said) a terrible evil thing. Sahih International : You have done an atrocious thing. Pickthall : Assuredly ye utter a disastrous thing Yusuf Ali : Indeed ye have put forth a thing most monstrous! Shakir : Certainly you have made an abominable assertion Dr. Ghali : Indeed you have already come with a hideous thing. Tafsir Jalalayn : Truly you have uttered something hideous, that is, a great abomination. Tagalog : Katiyakan, nakagawa kayo, O kayo na mga nagsasabi nito, ng napakalaking kalapastanganan. 19:90Hassanor Alapa : A maito bo na so manga langit na ipangabbnkag iyan ago mangab-bnsad so lopa ago mitaps iyan so manga palaw a marorothk (ko kapnd o katharo iran a so Allāh na adn a wata iyan) Muhsin Khan : Whereby the heavens are almost torn, and the earth is split asunder, and the mountains fall in ruins, Sahih International : The heavens almost rupture therefrom and the earth splits open and the mountains collapse in devastation Pickthall : Whereby almost the heavens are torn, and the earth is split asunder and the mountains fall in ruins, Yusuf Ali : At it the skies are ready to burst, the earth to split asunder, and the mountains to fall down in utter ruin, Shakir : The heavens may almost be rent thereat, and the earth cleave asunder, and the mountains fall down in pieces, Dr. Ghali : The heavens are almost about to be rent asunder thereof, and the earth cloven and the mountains to collapse, razed (completely), Tafsir Jalalayn : The heavens are almost (read takādu, or yakādu) rent (read takādu tatafattarna), by being torn apart (a variant reading has yanfatirna), because of it and the earth [is almost] split asunder, and the mountains [almost] fall down crashing, collapsing on top of them, because of [the fact]: Tagalog : Na halos mawarak ang mga kalangitan dahil sa napakasidhing kalapastanganang ito, at ang kalupaan ay magkabiyak-biyak, at gumuho nang lubusan ang mga kabundukan dahil sa galit ng mga ito nang alang-alang sa Allâh, 19:91Hassanor Alapa : Gowani a itawag iran a adn a rk o Makalimoon a wata a mama Muhsin Khan : That they ascribe a son (or offspring or children) to the Most Beneficent (Allah). Sahih International : That they attribute to the Most Merciful a son. Pickthall : That ye ascribe unto the Beneficent a son, Yusuf Ali : That they should invoke a son for (Allah) Most Gracious. Shakir : That they ascribe a son to the Beneficent Allah. Dr. Ghali : For that they have attributed to The All-Merciful a child; Tafsir Jalalayn : that they have ascribed a son to the Compassionate One. God, exalted be He, says: Tagalog : Dahil sa pagtatangi nila ng anak para sa Allâh. Luwalhati sa Allâh na Siya ay ganap na ligtas sa mga ganitong paratang. 19:92Hassanor Alapa : Go di ndait ko Makalimoon oba kowa sa wata a mama 810 Muhsin Khan : But it is not suitable for (the Majesty of) the Most Beneficent (Allah) that He should beget a son (or offspring or children). Sahih International : And it is not appropriate for the Most Merciful that He should take a son. Pickthall : When it is not meet for (the Majesty of) the Beneficent that He should choose a son. Yusuf Ali : For it is not consonant with the majesty of (Allah) Most Gracious that He should beget a son. Shakir : And it is not worthy of the Beneficent Allah that He should take (to Himself) a son. Dr. Ghali : And in no way does it behoove The All-Merciful to take to Him a child. Tafsir Jalalayn : when it is not meet for [the Majesty of] the Compassionate One to take a son, that is to say, such a thing does not befit Him. Tagalog : At hindi angkop sa kaganapan ng Allâh na Pinakamahagin at hindi karapat-dapat sa Kanyang Kamaharlikaan ang pagkakaroon ng anak, dahil ang pagkakaroon ng anak ay nangangahulugan ng kakulangan at pangangailangan, at ang Allâh ay hindi nangangailangan ng sinuman, Siya ay kapuri-puri na malayung-malayo sa anumang kakulangan. 19:93Hassanor Alapa : Da so langowan a madadalm ko manga langit ago so lopa inonta bo a phakaoma ko Makalimoon a oripn (skaniyan) Muhsin Khan : There is none in the heavens and the earth but comes unto the Most Beneficent (Allah) as a slave. Sahih International : There is no one in the heavens and earth but that he comes to the Most Merciful as a servant. Pickthall : There is none in the heavens and the earth but cometh unto the Beneficent as a slave. Yusuf Ali : Not one of the beings in the heavens and the earth but must come to (Allah) Most Gracious as a servant. Shakir : There is no one in the heavens and the earth but will come to the Beneficent Allah as a servant. Dr. Ghali : Decidedly none is there (Literally: all that are there) in the heavens and the earth except that he comes up to The All-Merciful as a slave. Tafsir Jalalayn : There is none in the heavens and the earth but he comes to the Compassionate One as a servant, servile, submissive, on the Day of Resurrection, including [individuals such as] Ezra and Jesus. Tagalog : Walang sinuman mula sa mga kalangitan na mga anghel at sa kalupaan na mga tao at mga ‘Jinn’ kundi sila ay haharap sa kanilang ‘Rabb’ sa Araw ng Muling Pagkabuhay bilang alipin, nagpapakumbaba na pinatutunayan ang pagiging alipin niya sa Allâh na Pinakamahabagin. 19:94Hassanor Alapa : Sabnar a inisip Iyan siran ago initong iyan siran sa 811 samporna a kaisip Muhsin Khan : Verily, He knows each one of them, and has counted them a full counting. Sahih International : He has enumerated them and counted them a [full] counting. Pickthall : Verily He knoweth them and numbereth them with (right) numbering. Yusuf Ali : He does take an account of them (all), and hath numbered them (all) exactly. Shakir : Certainly He has a comprehensive knowledge of them and He has numbered them a (comprehensive) numbering. Dr. Ghali : Indeed He has already enumerated them, and He has numbered them with (exact) numbering. Tafsir Jalalayn : Verily He knows their number and has counted them precisely, and therefore [the knowledge of] their total number does not elude Him, not even [the knowledge] of one of them. Tagalog : Katiyakan, batid Niya ang lahat ng Kanyang nilikha at alam Niya ang bilang ng mga ito nang ganap at walang sinuman ang naililihim sa Kanya. 19:95Hassanor Alapa : Go langon siran na phakaoma On ko alongan a Qiyāmah a zasakataw siran a (tibayo). Muhsin Khan : And everyone of them will come to Him alone on the Day of Resurrection (without any helper, or protector or defender). Sahih International : And all of them are coming to Him on the Day of Resurrection alone. Pickthall : And each one of them will come unto Him on the Day of Resurrection, alone. Yusuf Ali : And everyone of them will come to Him singly on the Day of Judgment. Shakir : And every one of them will come to Him on the day of resurrection alone. Dr. Ghali : And all of them will be coming up to Him upon the Day of the Resurrection, every one singly. Tafsir Jalalayn : And each one of them will come to Him on the Day of Resurrection, [each one] alone, without wealth or any helper to protect him. Tagalog : At walang pag-aalinlangan, ang bawa’t isa na nilikha ay haharap sa kanyang ‘Rabb’ na Tagapaglikha sa Araw ng Muling Pagkabuhay na siya ay nag-iisa, walang kayamanang dala-dala at walang anak. 19:96Hassanor Alapa : Mataan a so siran oto a miamaratiaya ago minggalbk sa manga pipia na pagadnan siran o Makalimoon sa kanggiginawai 812 Muhsin Khan : Verily, those who believe [in the Oneness of Allah and in His Messenger (Muhammad SAW)] and work deeds of righteousness, the Most Beneficent (Allah) will bestow love for them (in the hearts of the believers). Sahih International : Indeed, those who have believed and done righteous deeds - the Most Merciful will appoint for them affection. Pickthall : Lo! those who believe and do good works, the Beneficent will appoint for them love. Yusuf Ali : On those who believe and work deeds of righteousness, will (Allah) Most Gracious bestow love. Shakir : Surely (as for) those who believe and do good deeds for them will Allah bring about love. Dr. Ghali : Surely the ones who have believed and done deeds of righteousness, for them The All-Merciful will soon show (Literally: make for them) affection. Tafsir Jalalayn : Truly those who believe and perform righteous deeds — for them the Compassionate One shall appoint love, between them, so that they have mutual love and affection, and God, exalted be He, will love them. Tagalog : Katiyakan, ang mga yaong naniwala sa Allâh at sumunod sa mga Sugo at gumawa ng mga kabutihan ayon sa Kanyang batas, walang pag-aalinlangang sila ay pagkakalooban ng Allâh ng pagmamahal na sila ay mamahalin ng Kanyang mga alipin. 19:97Hassanor Alapa : Mataan a libod Ami skanian a Qur’ān ko dila aka (hay Mohammad) ka an ka mipanonotholan skaniyan ko miamananggila ago milalang ka sa pagtaw a somisilay (ko 813 bnar a lalan) Muhsin Khan : So We have made this (the Quran) easy in your own tongue (O Muhammad SAW), only that you may give glad tidings to the Muttaqun (pious and righteous persons - See V.2:2), and warn with it the Ludda (most quarrelsome) people. Sahih International : So, [O Muhammad], We have only made Qur'an easy in the Arabic language that you may give good tidings thereby to the righteous and warn thereby a hostile people. Pickthall : And We make (this Scripture) easy in thy tongue, (O Muhammad) only that thou mayst bear good tidings therewith unto those who ward off (evil), and warn therewith the froward folk. Yusuf Ali : So have We made the (Qur'an) easy in thine own tongue, that with it thou mayest give Glad Tidings to the righteous, and warnings to people given to contention. Shakir : So We have only made it easy in your tongue that you may give good news thereby to those who guard (against evil) and warn thereby a vehemently contentious people. Dr. Ghali : So surely We have made it easy in your tongue only that you may bear good tidings thereby to the pious and warn thereby an obstinate people. Tafsir Jalalayn : Indeed We have made it easy, namely, the Qur’ān, in your tongue, only that you may bear good tidings therewith to the God-fearing, those who will be prosperous because of their faith, and warn, threaten, therewith a folk [who are] contumacious (luddan, the [accusative] plural of aladd), in other words, [extremely] disputatious, [using] false arguments — and they are the disbelievers of Mecca. Tagalog : Na kung kaya, ginawa Namin ang Qur’ân na ito na madali sa pamamagitan ng iyong salita, O Muhammad, na ‘Arabic’ upang maipamalita mo ito sa mga may takot sa Allâh mula sa iyong mga tagasunod, at babalaan mo sa pamamagitan nito ang mga walang pananampalataya na matitindi ang kanilang pakikipagtalo sa kamalian. 19:98Hassanor Alapa : Di bo dn pirapira i inantior Ami ko miaonaan iran a pd sa pagtaw na ino adn a khagdam ka a pd kiran a isa bo, odi na adn a khan’g ka kiran a rapandas a garasa. 814 Muhsin Khan : And how many a generation before them have We destroyed! Can you (O Muhammad SAW) find a single one of them or hear even a whisper of them? Sahih International : And how many have We destroyed before them of generations? Do you perceive of them anyone or hear from them a sound? Pickthall : And how many a generation before them have We destroyed! Canst thou (Muhammad) see a single man of them, or hear from them the slightest sound? Yusuf Ali : But how many (countless) generations before them have We destroyed? Canst thou find a single one of them (now) or hear (so much as) a whisper of them? Shakir : And how many a generation have We destroyed before them! Do you see any one of them or hear a sound of them? Dr. Ghali : And how many a generation We caused to perish before them! Do you perceive even so much as one of them or hear of them a murmur? Tafsir Jalalayn : And how many — in other words, many — a generation, namely, [how many] a community from among the communities of the past, We have destroyed before them, for their denial of [Our] messengers. Can you see, [can] you find, [so much as] one of them, or hear from them [so much as] the faintest sound? No, indeed! So, just as We destroyed those [folk], We shall destroy these [Meccans]. Tagalog : At gaano karami, O Muhammad, ang winasak Namin na mga sambayanan na nauna kaysa sa iyong sambayanan, na wala ka nang sinumang nakikita sa kanila at hindi mo na naririnig pa ang kanilang mga ugong o hinaing, na kung kaya, ang mga walang pananampalataya mula sa iyong sambayanan ay Amin ding wawasakin na tulad ng ginawa Naming pagwasak sa mga nauna sa kanila?
