29:1Hassanor Alapa : Alif, Lām, Mīm, 1092 Muhsin Khan : Alif-Lam-Mim. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran, and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings.] Sahih International : Alif, Lam, Meem Pickthall : Alif. Lam. Mim. Yusuf Ali : A.L.M. Shakir : Alif Lam Mim. Dr. Ghali : Alif, Lam, Mim (These are the names of letters of Arabic alphabet, and only Allah knows their meaning here). Tafsir Jalalayn : Alif lām mīm: God knows best what He means by these [letters]. Tagalog : Alif-Lãm-Mim. Do people think that they will be left alone because they say: "We believe," and will not be tested. Sahih International : Do the people think that they will be left to say, "We believe" and they will not be tried? Pickthall : Do men imagine that they will be left (at ease) because they say, We believe, and will not be tested with affliction? Yusuf Ali : Do men think that they will be left alone on saying, "We believe", and that they will not be tested? Shakir : Do men think that they will be left alone on saying, We believe, and not be tried? Dr. Ghali : Does mankind reckon that they will be left to say, "We believe" and will not be tempted? Tafsir Jalalayn : Do people suppose that they will be left to say, that is, [that they will be left alone] because of their saying, ‘We believe’, and they will not be tried?, tested with that which will reveal the sincerity of their belief. This [verse] was revealed regarding a group of individuals who when they became believers endured suffering at the hands of the idolaters. 29:3Hassanor Alapa : Sabnar a tinioba Ami so siran oto a miaonaan iran sa khatokawan dn o Allāh so siran oto a tomioman ago khatokawan Iyan dn so siran oto a manga bokhag Muhsin Khan : And We indeed tested those who were before them. And Allah will certainly make (it) known (the truth of) those who are true, and will certainly make (it) known (the falsehood of) those who are liars, (although Allah knows all that before putting them to test). Sahih International : But We have certainly tried those before them, and Allah will surely make evident those who are truthful, and He will surely make evident the liars. Pickthall : Lo! We tested those who were before you. Thus Allah knoweth those who are sincere, and knoweth those who feign. Yusuf Ali : We did test those before them, and Allah will certainly know those who are true from those who are false. Shakir : And certainly We tried those before them, so Allah will certainly know those who are true and He will certainly know the liars. Dr. Ghali : And indeed We already tempted the ones that were even before them, so indeed Allah definitely knows the ones who (act) sincerely, and indeed Allah definitely knows the liars. Tafsir Jalalayn : And certainly We tried those who were before them. So God shall surely know those who are sincere, in their faith — a knowledge of direct vision — and He shall surely know those who are liars, regarding it. 29:4Hassanor Alapa : Antaa ka ba iitonga o siran oto a gii siran nggalbk sa manga rarata a khaonaan Kami ran, sayana a marata so ipkhokom iran Muhsin Khan : Or those who do evil deeds think that they can outstrip Us (i.e. escape Our Punishment)? Evil is that which they judge! Sahih International : Or do those who do evil deeds think they can outrun Us? Evil is what they judge. Pickthall : Or do those who do ill-deeds imagine that they can outstrip Us? Evil (for them) is that which they decide. Yusuf Ali : Do those who practise evil think that they will get the better of Us? Evil is their judgment! Shakir : Or do they who work evil think that they will escape Us? Evil is it that they judge! Dr. Ghali : Or even do they reckon- the ones who do odious deeds- that they will outstrip Us? Odious is (the way) they judge! Tafsir Jalalayn : Or do those who commit evil deeds, idolatry and acts of disobedience, suppose that they can elude Us?, so that We will not be able to requite them. Evil is that, judgement of theirs, which they judge! 29:5Hassanor Alapa : Sa taw a miaadn a aarapn iyan so kakhatmowa ko Allāh na mataan a so taalik o Allāh na disomala a phakaoma dn a skaniyan so Pphakan’g a Matao Muhsin Khan : Whoever hopes for the Meeting with Allah, then Allah's Term is surely coming. and He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower. Sahih International : Whoever should hope for the meeting with Allah - indeed, the term decreed by Allah is coming. And He is the Hearing, the Knowing. Pickthall : Whoso looketh forward to the meeting with Allah (let him know that) Allah's reckoning is surely nigh, and He is the Hearer, the Knower. Yusuf Ali : For those whose hopes are in the meeting with Allah (in the Hereafter, let them strive); for the term (appointed) by Allah is surely coming and He hears and knows (all things). Shakir : Whoever hopes to meet Allah, the term appointed by Allah will then most surely come; and He is the Hearing, the Knowing. Dr. Ghali : Whoever hopes for the meeting with Allah, then surely the term of Allah is indeed coming up; and He is The Ever-Hearing, the Ever-Knowing. Tafsir Jalalayn : Whoever expects to encounter God, [should know that] God’s [appointed] term, for this [encounter], will indeed come; so let him prepare for it. And He is the Hearer, of the sayings of His servants, the Knower, of their actions. Muhsin Khan : And whosoever strives, he strives only for himself. Verily, Allah is free of all wants from the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns, and all that exists). Sahih International : And whoever strives only strives for [the benefit of] himself. Indeed, Allah is free from need of the worlds. Pickthall : And whosoever striveth, striveth only for himself, for lo! Allah is altogether Independent of (His) creatures. Yusuf Ali : And if any strive (with might and main), they do so for their own souls: for Allah is free of all needs from all creation. Shakir : And whoever strives hard, he strives only for his own soul; most surely Allah is Self-sufficient, above (need of) the worlds. Dr. Ghali : And whoever strives, then surely he strives only for himself; surely Allah is indeed (so) Ever-Affluent (as to dispense) with the worlds. Tafsir Jalalayn : And whoever struggles, in war or against [the temptations of] his own soul, struggles only for his own sake, because the benefits [to be reaped] from his struggle will be for his sake and not for God’s. For truly God is Independent of [the creatures of] all the Worlds, mankind, jinn and angels, and [He is also without need] of their worship. 29:7Hassanor Alapa : Go so siran oto a miamaratiaya ago minggalbk sa manga pipia na disomala a sapngan Ami kiran so manga dosa iran, na balasan Ami siran sa lbi a mapia a so miaadn siran a gii ran nggalbkn Muhsin Khan : Those who believe [in the Oneness of Allah (Monotheism) and in Messenger Muhammad SAW , and do not apostate because of the harm they receive from the polytheists], and do righteous good deeds, surely, We shall remit from them their evil deeds and shall reward them according to the best of that which they used to do. Sahih International : And those who believe and do righteous deeds - We will surely remove from them their misdeeds and will surely reward them according to the best of what they used to do. Pickthall : And as for those who believe and do good works, We shall remit from them their evil deeds and shall repay them the best that they did. Yusuf Ali : Those who believe and work righteous deeds,- from them shall We blot out all evil (that may be) in them, and We shall reward them according to the best of their deeds. Shakir : And (as for) those who believe and do good, We will most certainly do away with their evil deeds and We will most certainly reward them the best of what they did. Dr. Ghali : And the ones who have believed and done deeds of righteousness, indeed We will definitely expiate for them their odious deeds, and indeed We will definitely recompense them the best of whatever they were doing. Tafsir Jalalayn : And those who believe and perform righteous deeds, We will surely absolve them of their misdeeds, by their performance of righteous deeds, and We will indeed requite them with the best of what they used to do, namely, their righteous deeds (it [ahsana] is in the accusative because the operator of the oblique [bi] has been omitted). 29:8Hassanor Alapa : Go iniwasiat Ami ko manosiya so mbalaa loks iyan sa mapia, na amay ka tgln ka iran a dowa sa kipanakoton ka Rakn sa nganin a daa mlng ka on, na di nka siran pagonoti, sii Rakn so khandodan iyo na panotholn Akn rkano so nganin a miaadn kano a gii niyo nggalbkn Muhsin Khan : And We have enjoined on man to be good and dutiful to his parents, but if they strive to make you join with Me (in worship) anything (as a partner) of which you have no knowledge, then obey them not. Unto Me is your return, and I shall tell you what you used to do. Sahih International : And We have enjoined upon man goodness to parents. But if they endeavor to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them. To Me is your return, and I will inform you about what you used to do. Pickthall : We have enjoined on man kindness to parents; but if they strive to make thee join with Me that of which thou hast no knowledge, then obey them not. Unto Me is your return and I shall tell you what ye used to do. Yusuf Ali : We have enjoined on man kindness to parents: but if they (either of them) strive (to force) thee to join with Me (in worship) anything of which thou hast no knowledge, obey them not. Ye have (all) to return to me, and I will tell you (the truth) of all that ye did. Shakir : And We have enjoined on man goodness to his parents, and if they contend with you that you should associate (others) with Me, of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them, to Me is your return, so I will inform you of what you did. Dr. Ghali : And We have enjoined upon man the fair (companionship) to his parents; and in case they strive with you to make you associate with Me that whereof you have no knowledge, then do not obey them. To Me will be your return, then I will (fully) inform you of whatever you were doing. Tafsir Jalalayn : And We have enjoined on man kindness to his parents, that he should be dutiful towards them; but if they urge you to ascribe to Me as partner that of which you do not have any knowledge, [any knowledge] that accords with reality, and so is meaningless, then do not obey them, in [such incitements to] idolatry. To Me will be your return whereat I will inform you of what you used to do, and I will requite you for it.
29:9Hassanor Alapa : Go so siran oto a miamaratiaya ago minggalbk sa manga pipia na disomala a isold 1096 Ami siran sii ko manga taw a manga pipia (sālihīn) Muhsin Khan : And for those who believe (in the Oneness of Allah and other items of Faith) and do righteous good deeds, surely, We shall make them enter in (the enterance of) the righteous (i.e. in Paradise). Sahih International : And those who believe and do righteous deeds - We will surely admit them among the righteous [into Paradise]. Pickthall : And as for those who believe and do good works, We verily shall make them enter in among the righteous. Yusuf Ali : And those who believe and work righteous deeds,- them shall We admit to the company of the Righteous. Shakir : And (as for) those who believe and do good, We will most surely cause them to enter among the good. Dr. Ghali : And the ones who have believed and have done deeds of righteousness, indeed We will definitely admit them among the righteous. Tafsir Jalalayn : And those who believe and perform righteous deeds, assuredly We shall admit them among the righteous, [among] the prophets and the saints, by gathering in the company of one another [at the Resurrection]. 29:10Hassanor Alapa : Go pd ko manga taw so taw a gii niyan tharoon a miaratiaya kami ko Allāh na amay ka siksaan ko (kapzimbaa niyan ko) 1097 Allāh na balowin iyan so siksa o manga taw a datar o siksa o Allāh na o adn a makaoma a panabang a phoon ko Kadnan ka na disomala a tharoon iyan a skami na pd iyo, ba di so Allāh i lbi a Matao ko nganin a madadalm ko manga rarb (poso’)o manga kaadn Muhsin Khan : Of mankind are some who say: "We believe in Allah," but if they are made to suffer for the sake of Allah, they consider the trial of mankind as Allah's punishment, and if victory comes from your Lord, (the hypocrites) will say: "Verily! We were with you (helping you)." Is not Allah Best Aware of what is in the breast of the 'Alamin (mankind and jinns). Sahih International : And of the people are some who say, "We believe in Allah ," but when one [of them] is harmed for [the cause of] Allah , they consider the trial of the people as [if it were] the punishment of Allah . But if victory comes from your Lord, they say, "Indeed, We were with you." Is not Allah most knowing of what is within the breasts of all creatures? Pickthall : Of mankind is he who saith: We believe in Allah, but, if he be made to suffer for the sake of Allah, he mistaketh the persecution of mankind for Allah's punishment; and then, if victory cometh from thy Lord, will say: Lo! we were with you (all the while). Is not Allah Best Aware of what is in the bosoms of (His) creatures? Yusuf Ali : Then there are among men such as say, "We believe in Allah"; but when they suffer affliction in (the cause of) Allah, they treat men's oppression as if it were the Wrath of Allah! And if help comes (to thee) from thy Lord, they are sure to say, "We have (always) been with you!" Does not Allah know best all that is in the hearts of all creation? Shakir : And among men is he who says: We believe in Allah; but when he is persecuted in (the way of) Allah he thinks the persecution of men to be as the chastisement of Allah; and if there come assistance from your Lord, they would most certainly say: Surely we were with you. What! is not Allah the best knower of what is in the breasts of mankind. Dr. Ghali : And of mankind are (the ones) who say, "We have believed in Allah." Then when (any of them) is hurt in (the cause of) Allah, he makes the temptation of mankind as the torment of Allah, and in case victory indeed comes from your Lord, indeed they will definitely say, "Surely we were with you." And does not Allah know best whatever is in the breasts of the worlds? Tafsir Jalalayn : And among people there are those who say, ‘We believe in God’, but if such [a person] suffers hurt in God’s cause, he takes people’s persecution, that is, their harming of him, to be [the same] as God’s chastisement, in terms of his fear of it, and so he obeys them and behaves hypocritically. Yet if (la-in: the lām is for oaths) there comes help, to believers, from your Lord, and they take spoils, they will assuredly say (la-yaqūlunna: the [final] nūn [of the indicative] has been omitted because of the other nūn coming after it, and likewise the wāw, indicating the plural person [has been replaced by a damma], because of two unvocalised consonants coming together), ‘We were indeed with you’, in faith, so give us a share of the booty. God, exalted be He, says: Does God not know best what is in the breasts of all creatures?, [what is] in their hearts of faith or hypocrisy? Indeed [He does]. 29:11Hassanor Alapa : Go matatankd a khatokawan o Allāh so siran oto a miamara-tiaya, ago khatokawan iyan dn so manga monafiq. Muhsin Khan : Verily, Allah knows those who believe, and verily, He knows the hypocrites [i.e. Allah will test the people with good and hard days to discriminate the good from the wicked (although Allah knows all that before putting them to test)]. Sahih International : And Allah will surely make evident those who believe, and He will surely make evident the hypocrites. Pickthall : Verily Allah knoweth those who believe, and verily He knoweth the hypocrites. Yusuf Ali : And Allah most certainly knows those who believe, and as certainly those who are Hypocrites. Shakir : And most certainly Allah will know those who believe and most certainly He will know the hypocrites. Dr. Ghali : And indeed Allah definitely knows the ones who have believed, and indeed He definitely knows the hypocrites. Tafsir Jalalayn : And God shall surely ascertain those who believe, in their hearts, and He shall surely ascertain the hypocrites, and He will requite each group accordingly (the lām in both verbs [la-ya‘lamanna, ‘He shall ascertain’] is for oaths). 29:12Hassanor Alapa : Go pitharo o siran oto a manga kafir ko siran oto a miamaratiaya a onoti niyo so lalan ami (agama mi) ka tanggongn ami rkano so manga dosa niyo a di ran 1098 khaawidn so manga dosa iran sa mlk bo, mataan a siran na manga bokhag Muhsin Khan : And those who disbelieve say to those who believe: "Follow our way and we will verily bear your sins," never will they bear anything of their sins. Surely, they are liars. Sahih International : And those who disbelieve say to those who believe, "Follow our way, and we will carry your sins." But they will not carry anything of their sins. Indeed, they are liars. Pickthall : Those who disbelieve say unto those who believe: Follow our way (of religion) and we verily will bear your sins (for you). They cannot bear aught of their sins. Lo! they verily are liars. Yusuf Ali : And the Unbelievers say to those who believe: "Follow our path, and we will bear (the consequences) of your faults." Never in the least will they bear their faults: in fact they are liars! Shakir : And those who disbelieve say to those who believe: Follow our path and we will bear your wrongs. And never shall they be the bearers of any of their wrongs; most surely they are liars. Dr. Ghali : And the ones who have disbelieved said to the ones who have believed, "Closely follow our way and let us carry your sins." And in no way can they carry anything of their sins. Surely they are indeed liars. Tafsir Jalalayn : And those who disbelieve say to those who believe, ‘Follow our path, our religion, and we will bear [responsibility for] your sins’, when you follow us, should there be any [such sins] (the imperative here functions as a predicate). God, exalted be He, says: But they will not [be able to] bear anything of their sins. Truly they are liars, in [saying] this. 29:13Hassanor Alapa : Go matatankd a khabakontol iran so manga ppnd iran (a dosa) ago manga ppnd (a dosa) a pd o manga dosa iran ago izaan siran dn ko 1099 alongan a Qiyāmah ko nganin a gii ran pangantangn Muhsin Khan : And verily, they shall bear their own loads, and other loads besides their own, and verily, they shall be questioned on the Day of Resurrection about that which they used to fabricate. Sahih International : But they will surely carry their [own] burdens and [other] burdens along with their burdens, and they will surely be questioned on the Day of Resurrection about what they used to invent. Pickthall : But they verily will bear their own loads and other loads beside their own, and they verily will be questioned on the Day of Resurrection concerning that which they invented. Yusuf Ali : They will bear their own burdens, and (other) burdens along with their own, and on the Day of Judgments they will be called to account for their falsehoods. Shakir : And most certainly they shall carry their own burdens, and other burdens with their own burdens, and most certainly they shall be questioned on the resurrection day as to what they forged. Dr. Ghali : And indeed they will definitely carry their heavy burdens and other heavy burdens with their (own) heavy burdens. And indeed they will be definitely asked on the Day of the Resurrection concerning whatever they used to fabricate. Tafsir Jalalayn : And they shall certainly bear their [own] burdens, their sins, and other burdens along with their [own] burdens, [as punishment] for saying to believers: Follow our path [previous verse] and for their leading astray those who follow them [blindly]; and on the Day of Resurrection they shall surely be questioned concerning what they used to invent, [what] they used to fabricate of lies against God, a questioning of rebuke (the lām in both verbs [la-yahmilunna and la-yus’alunna] is for oaths; in both [verbs] the [plural] indicators of the subject, wāw and nūn [-ūna], have been omitted). 29:14Hassanor Alapa : Go sabnar a siogo Ami so Nūh ko pagtaw niyan na 1100 miatatap kiran sa sanggibo ragon inonta bo sa lima polo ragon, na sininggawt siran o lapay a siran na manga pananakoto Muhsin Khan : And indeed We sent Nuh (Noah) to his people, and he stayed among them a thousand years less fifty years [inviting them to believe in the Oneness of Allah (Monotheism), and discard the false gods and other deities], and the Deluge overtook them while they were Zalimun (wrong-doers, polytheists, disbelievers, etc.). Sahih International : And We certainly sent Noah to his people, and he remained among them a thousand years minus fifty years, and the flood seized them while they were wrongdoers. Pickthall : And verily we sent Noah (as Our messenger) unto his folk, and he continued with them for a thousand years save fifty years; and the flood engulfed them, for they were wrong-doers. Yusuf Ali : We (once) sent Noah to his people, and he tarried among them a thousand years less fifty: but the Deluge overwhelmed them while they (persisted in) sin. Shakir : And certainly We sent Nuh to his people, so he remained among them a thousand years save fifty years. And the deluge overtook them, while they were unjust. Dr. Ghali : And indeed We already sent Nuh (Noah) to his people. So he lingered among them a thousand years except fifty seasons. Then the Deluge took them (away) (for) they were unjust. Tafsir Jalalayn : And verily We sent Noah to his people, when he was forty years of age or older, and he remained among them a thousand-less-fifty years, calling them to affirm God’s Oneness, but they denied him; so the Flood engulfed them, a deluge of water drifted against them, rising above them and drowning them, for they were wrongdoers, idolaters. Yusuf Ali : But We saved him and the companions of the Ark, and We made the (Ark) a Sign for all peoples! Shakir : So We delivered him and the inmates of the ark, and made it a sign to the nations. Dr. Ghali : So We delivered him and the companions of the Ark, and We made it a sign for the worlds. Tafsir Jalalayn : Then We delivered him, namely, Noah, and the occupants of the ship, those who were with him in it, and We made this a sign, a lesson, for all peoples, for [all] peoples that would come after them, should they disobey the messengers sent to them. Noah lived for a further sixty years or more after the Flood, until mankind multiplied [again]. Shakir : And (We sent) Lut when he said to his people: Most surely you are guilty of an indecency which none of the nations has ever done before you; Dr. Ghali : And Lut, as he said to his people, "Surely you indeed come up to (such) obscenity as in no way has any of the worlds (that) preceded you (done so). Sahih International : Indeed, you approach men and obstruct the road and commit in your meetings [every] evil." And the answer of his people was not but they said, "Bring us the punishment of Allah , if you should be of the truthful." Pickthall : For come ye not in unto males, and cut ye not the road (for travellers), and commit ye not abomination in your meetings? But the answer of his folk was only that they said: Bring Allah's doom upon us if thou art a truthteller! Yusuf Ali : "Do ye indeed approach men, and cut off the highway?- and practise wickedness (even) in your councils?" But his people gave no answer but this: they said: "Bring us the Wrath of Allah if thou tellest the truth." Shakir : What! do you come to the males and commit robbery on the highway, and you commit evil deeds in your assemblies? But nothing was the answer of his people except that they said: Bring on us Allah's punishment, if you are one of the truthful. Dr. Ghali : Do you really come up to (obscenity) to men, and cut the way, and come up in your assembly to maleficence?" Yet, in no way was the answer of his people (anything) except that they said, "Come up with the torment of Allah in case you are of the sincere." Tafsir Jalalayn : What! Dr. Ghali : The likeness of the ones who have taken to themselves patrons apart from Allah is as the likeness of the spider that takes to itself a home; and surely the feeblest of homes is indeed the spider's house, if they knew (the Truth). Tafsir Jalalayn : The likeness of those who choose besides God [other] patrons, namely, idols, from whom they hope to profit, is as the likeness of the spider that makes a home, for itself in which to shelter. And truly the frailest, the weakest, of homes is the home of the spider, for it neither protects it from heat nor cold — likewise, idols cannot benefit those who worship them — if they only knew, this, they would not worship them. 29:42Hassanor Alapa : Mataan a so Allāh na katawan Iyan so nganin a pphanongga-nowin iran a salakaw Ron a pd sa shayi, a Skaniyan so Mabagr a Maongangn Muhsin Khan : Verily, Allah knows what things they invoke instead of Him. Allah knoweth what thing they invoke instead of Him. He is the Mighty, the Wise. Yusuf Ali : Verily Allah doth know of (every thing) whatever that they call upon besides Him: and He is Exalted (in power), Wise. Shakir : Surely Allah knows whatever thing they call upon besides Him; and He is the Mighty, the Wise. Dr. Ghali : Surely Allah knows that in no way do they (really) invoke anything (else), apart from Him; and He is The Ever-Mighty, The Ever-Wise. Tafsir Jalalayn : Truly God knows whatever thing (mā functions like alladhī) they call on, [what] they worship (read yad‘ūna, ‘they call on’, or tad‘ūna, ‘you call on’) besides Him, other than Him. And He is the Mighty, in His kingdom, the Wise, in what He does. 29:43Hassanor Alapa : Giankoto a manga ibarat na ipmbgay Ami ko manga taw, na da a makaphamimikiran on a rowar ko manga tatao Muhsin Khan : And these similitudes We put forward for mankind, but none will understand them except those who have knowledge (of Allah and His Signs, etc.). Sahih International : And these examples We present to the people, but none will understand them except those of knowledge. Pickthall : As for these similitudes, We coin them for mankind, but none will grasp their meaning save the wise. Yusuf Ali : And such are the Parables We set forth for mankind, but only those understand them who have knowledge. Shakir : And (as for) these examples, We set them forth for men, and none understand them but the learned. Dr. Ghali : And those similitudes, We strike them for mankind, and in no way does anyone consider them except the knowledgeable (people). Tafsir Jalalayn : And such similitudes, in the Qur’ān, We strike them, We coin them, for [the sake of] mankind; but none understands them, [none] grasp them, except those who know, those who reflect. Tagalog : At ito ang mga parabola na Aming ibinibigay bilang halimbawa sa sangkatauhan; nang sa gayon ay mapakinabangan nila at matutunan, subali’t walang sinuman ang makaiintindi nito maliban sa kanila na nakakikilala sa Allâh, sa Kanyang mga talata at batas. 29:44Hassanor Alapa : Inadn o Allāh so manga langit ago so lopa sa bnar, mataan a kadadalman oto sa tanda a rk o miamaratiaya 1109 Muhsin Khan : (Allah says to His Prophet Muhammad SAW): "Allah (Alone) created the heavens and the earth with truth (and none shared Him in their creation)." Verily! Therein is surely a sign for those who believe. Sahih International : Allah created the heavens and the earth in truth. Indeed in that is a sign for the believers. Pickthall : Allah created the heavens and the earth with truth. Lo! therein is indeed a portent for believers. Yusuf Ali : Allah created the heavens and the earth in true (proportions): verily in that is a Sign for those who believe. Shakir : Allah created the heavens and the earth with truth; most surely there is a sign in this for the believers. Dr. Ghali : Allah created the heavens and the earth with the Truth; surely in that is indeed a sign to the believers. Tafsir Jalalayn : God created the heavens and the earth with truth, that is, rightly. Surely in that there is a sign, indicating His power, exalted be He, for believers — they are specifically mentioned because they are the ones to benefit thereby in their faith, in contrast to disbelievers. Tagalog : Nilikha ng Allâh ang mga kalangitan at kalupaan nang makatotohanan at makatarungan. Muhsin Khan : Recite (O Muhammad SAW) what has been revealed to you of the Book (the Quran), and perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat). Verily, As-Salat (the prayer) prevents from Al-Fahsha' (i.e. great sins of every kind, unlawful sexual intercourse, etc.) and Al-Munkar (i.e. disbelief, polytheism, and every kind of evil wicked deed, etc.) and the remembering (praising, etc.) of (you by) Allah (in front of the angels) is greater indeed [than your remembering (praising, etc.) Allah in prayers, etc.]. And Allah knows what you do. Sahih International : Recite, [O Muhammad], what has been revealed to you of the Book and establish prayer. Indeed, prayer prohibits immorality and wrongdoing, and the remembrance of Allah is greater. And Allah knows that which you do. Pickthall : Recite that which hath been inspired in thee of the Scripture, and establish worship. Lo! worship preserveth from lewdness and iniquity, but verily remembrance of Allah is more important. And Allah knoweth what ye do. Yusuf Ali : Recite what is sent of the Book by inspiration to thee, and establish regular Prayer: for Prayer restrains from shameful and unjust deeds; and remembrance of Allah is the greatest (thing in life) without doubt. And Allah knows the (deeds) that ye do. Shakir : Recite that which has been revealed to you of the Book and keep up prayer; surely prayer keeps (one) away from indecency and evil, and certainly the remembrance of Allah is the greatest, and Allah knows what you do. Dr. Ghali : Recite what has been revealed to you (i.e., the Prophet) of the Book, and keep up the prayer. Surely prayer forbids obscenity and malfeasance; and indeed the Remembrance of Allah is greater, and Allah knows whatever you (The pronoun is plural) work. Tafsir Jalalayn : Recite what has been revealed to you of the Book, the Qur’ān, and maintain prayer; truly prayer prohibits lewd acts and indecency, [defined as such] according to the Law. In other words, that is its purpose provided that the person adheres to [observance of] it. And the remembrance of God is surely greater, than other acts of obedience, and God knows what you do, and He will requite you for them. Tagalog : Bigkasin mo, O Muhammad, ang anumang ipinahayag sa iyo na Banal na Qur’ân, at isagawa mo at ipatupad mo ang ‘Salâh’ sa ganap na kaparaanan at kaayusan nito. Sahih International : And do not argue with the People of the Scripture except in a way that is best, except for those who commit injustice among them, and say, "We believe in that which has been revealed to us and revealed to you. And our God and your God is one; and we are Muslims [in submission] to Him." Pickthall : And argue not with the People of the Scripture unless it be in (a way) that is better, save with such of them as do wrong; and say: We believe in that which hath been revealed unto us and revealed unto you; our Allah and your Allah is One, and unto Him we surrender. Yusuf Ali : And dispute ye not with the People of the Book, except with means better (than mere disputation), unless it be with those of them who inflict wrong (and injury): but say, "We believe in the revelation which has come down to us and in that which came down to you; Our Allah and your Allah is one; and it is to Him we bow (in Islam)." Shakir : And do not dispute with the followers of the Book except by what is best, except those of them who act unjustly, and say: We believe in that which has been revealed to us and revealed to you, and our Allah and your Allah is One, and to Him do we submit. Dr. Ghali : And do not dispute (This is addressed to the believers) with the population of the Book (Or: family of the Book; i.e., the Jews and Christians) except in the fairest (manner), except for the ones of them who have done injustice; and say, "We believe in that which has been sent down to us and has been sent down to you. And our God and your God is One, and to Him we are Muslims." (Literally: We surrender). Tafsir Jalalayn : And do not dispute with the People of the Scripture unless it be with that — in that manner of disputation, bettering the most virtuous way, such as calling [them] to God by [reference to] His signs and pointing out His arguments; except [in the case of] those of them who have done wrong, by waging war and refusing to accept [to pay] the jizya-tax: dispute with these using the sword, until such time as they submit or pay the jizya-tax; and say, to those who have accepted [the imposition upon them of] the jizya-tax, should they inform you of something stated in their Scriptures: ‘We believe in that which has been revealed to us and revealed to you — and neither believe nor disbelieve them in that [which they tell you] — our God and your God is one [and the same], and to Him we submit’, [to Him] we are obedient. And verily, Allah is with the Muhsinun (good doers)." Sahih International : And those who strive for Us - We will surely guide them to Our ways. And indeed, Allah is with the doers of good. Pickthall : As for those who strive in Us, We surely guide them to Our paths, and lo! Allah is with the good. Yusuf Ali : And those who strive in Our (cause),- We will certainly guide them to our Paths: For verily Allah is with those who do right. Shakir : And (as for) those who strive hard for Us, We will most certainly guide them in Our ways; and Allah is most surely with the doers of good. Dr. Ghali : And the ones who have striven in (our way), (Literally: in us) indeed We will definitely guide them to Our ways; and surely Allah is indeed with the fair-doers. Tafsir Jalalayn : But as for those who struggle for Our sake, for Our truth, We shall assuredly guide them in Our ways, that is, the means to come to Us, and truly God is with the virtuous, the believers, assisting and helping. Osayan1092.
