47:1Hassanor Alapa : Siran oto a manga kafir ago mirn siran sa lalan ko Allāh na diadag Iyan (diadas Iyan) so manga galbk iran Muhsin Khan : Those who disbelieve [in the Oneness of Allah, and in the Message of Prophet Muhammad SAW ], and hinder (men) from the Path of Allah (Islamic Monotheism), He will render their deeds vain. Sahih International : Those who disbelieve and avert [people] from the way of Allah - He will waste their deeds. Pickthall : Those who disbelieve and turn (men) from the way of Allah, He rendereth their actions vain. Yusuf Ali : Those who reject Allah and hinder (men) from the Path of Allah,- their deeds will Allah render astray (from their mark). Shakir : (As for) those who disbelieve and turn away from Allah's way, He shall render their works ineffective. Dr. Ghali : The ones who have disbelieved and barred from the way of Allah, (He) will make their deeds to err away. Tafsir Jalalayn : Those who disbelieve, from among the people of Mecca, and bar, others, from the way of God, that is to say, [from] faith, He will leave their works to waste, such as giving food [to the poor] or being kind to kin, and so they will find no reward for these [works of theirs] in the Hereafter; [but] they are requited for them in this world [purely] out of His bounty, exalted be He. 47:2Hassanor Alapa : Na so siran oto a miamaratiaya ago minggagalbk sa manga pipia ago piaratiaya iran so nganin a initoron ko Mohammad a skaniyan so Bnar a phoon ko Kadnan iran na siapngan Iyan kiran so manga dosa iran ago inompiaan Iyan so btad iran Muhsin Khan : But those who believe and do righteous good deeds, and believe in that which is sent down to Muhammad (SAW), for it is the truth from their Lord, He will expiate from them their sins, and will make good their state. Sahih International : And those who believe and do righteous deeds and believe in what has been sent down upon Muhammad - and it is the truth from their Lord - He will remove from them their misdeeds and amend their condition. Pickthall : And those who believe and do good works and believe in that which is revealed unto Muhammad - and it is the truth from their Lord - He riddeth them of their ill-deeds and improveth their state. Yusuf Ali : But those who believe and work deeds of righteousness, and believe in the (Revelation) sent down to Muhammad - for it is the Truth from their Lord,- He will remove from them their ills and improve their condition. Shakir : And (as for) those who believe and do good, and believe in what has been revealed to Muhammad, and it is the very truth from their Lord, He will remove their evil from them and improve their condition. Dr. Ghali : And the ones who have believed and done deeds of righteousness and have believed in what has been successively sent down upon Muhammad-and it is the Truth from their Lord-He will expiate for them their odious deeds and will make righteous their state. Tafsir Jalalayn : But those who believe, namely, the Helpers (al-Ansār) and others [like them], and perform righteous deeds and believe in what has been revealed to Muhammad, namely, the Qur’ān — and it is the truth from their Lord — He will absolve them of, He will forgive them, their misdeeds and rightly dispose their mind, their state, so that they do not disobey Him. 47:3Hassanor Alapa : Gioto na mataan a so siran oto a manga kafir na inonotan iran so batal, na so siran oto a miamara-tiaya na inonotan iran so bnar a phoon ko Kadnan iran, datar oto a ipmbgay o Allāh ko manga taw so manga ibarat iran (iringa iran) Muhsin Khan : That is because those who disbelieve follow falsehood, while those who believe follow the truth from their Lord. Thus does Allah set forth their parables for mankind. Sahih International : That is because those who disbelieve follow falsehood, and those who believe follow the truth from their Lord. Thus does Allah present to the people their comparisons. Pickthall : That is because those who disbelieve follow falsehood and because those who believe follow the truth from their Lord. Thus Allah coineth their similitudes for mankind. Yusuf Ali : This because those who reject Allah follow vanities, while those who believe follow the Truth from their Lord: Thus does Allah set forth for men their lessons by similitudes. Shakir : That is because those who disbelieve follow falsehood, and have given them their dowries, taking (them) in marriage, not fornicating nor taking them for paramours in secret; and whoever denies faith, his work indeed is of no account, and in the hereafter he shall be one of the losers. Dr. Ghali : That is because the ones who have disbelieved have closely followed untruth and the ones who have believed have closely followed the Truth from their Lord. Thus Allah strikes their similitudes for mankind. Tafsir Jalalayn : That, rendering void of their works and the absolution of evil deeds, is because those who disbelieve follow falsehood, Satan, and because those who believe follow the truth, the Qur’ān, from their Lord. Thus, in the same manner of clarification, does God strike for mankind similitudes of themselves, [that is how] He clarifies for them their states, in other words, the disbeliever has his work rendered void while the believer is forgiven. 47:4Hassanor Alapa : Igira miabalak iyo so siran oto a manga kafir na tidawa niyo so manga lig iran, sa amay ka kapakabasngan iyo siran (ko kabono) na ilota niyo so manga patong (ko miangabibiag 1526 kiran) sa adn sa oriyan a karilai kiran na adn pman a makasanggar siran a tamok, taman sa mibtad o kathidawa so manga ppnd iyan (mapos so masa niyan) gioto, a o 1527 khabayai o Allāh na tabann (daagn) Iyan siran ogaid na kagia ithioba Iyan ko sabaad rkano so sabagi (ko kapng-golalan o kathidawa), Go so siran oto a miangabobono sa lalan ko 1528 Allāh na di Niyan dn pagilangn so (balas) o manga galbk iran 1529 Muhsin Khan : So, when you meet (in fight Jihad in Allah's Cause), those who disbelieve smite at their necks till when you have killed and wounded many of them, then bind a bond firmly (on them, i.e. take them as captives). Thereafter (is the time) either for generosity (i.e. free them without ransom), or ransom (according to what benefits Islam), until the war lays down its burden. Thus [you are ordered by Allah to continue in carrying out Jihad against the disbelievers till they embrace Islam (i.e. are saved from the punishment in the Hell-fire) or at least come under your protection], but if it had been Allah's Will, He Himself could certainly have punished them (without you). But (He lets you fight), in order to test you, some with others. But those who are killed in the Way of Allah, He will never let their deeds be lost, Sahih International : So when you meet those who disbelieve [in battle], strike [their] necks until, when you have inflicted slaughter upon them, then secure their bonds, and either [confer] favor afterwards or ransom [them] until the war lays down its burdens. That [is the command]. And if Allah had willed, He could have taken vengeance upon them [Himself], but [He ordered armed struggle] to test some of you by means of others. And those who are killed in the cause of Allah - never will He waste their deeds. Pickthall : Now when ye meet in battle those who disbelieve, then it is smiting of the necks until, when ye have routed them, then making fast of bonds; and afterward either grace or ransom till the war lay down its burdens. That (is the ordinance). And if Allah willed He could have punished them (without you) but (thus it is ordained) that He may try some of you by means of others. And those who are slain in the way of Allah, He rendereth not their actions vain. Yusuf Ali : Therefore, when ye meet the Unbelievers (in fight), smite at their necks; At length, when ye have thoroughly subdued them, bind a bond firmly (on them): thereafter (is the time for) either generosity or ransom: Until the war lays down its burdens. Thus (are ye commanded): but if it had been Allah's Will, He could certainly have exacted retribution from them (Himself); but (He lets you fight) in order to test you, some with others. But those who are slain in the Way of Allah,- He will never let their deeds be lost. Shakir : So when you meet in battle those who disbelieve, then smite the necks until when you have overcome them, then make (them) prisoners, and afterwards either set them free as a favor or let them ransom (themselves) until the war terminates. That (shall be so); and if Allah had pleased He would certainly have exacted what is due from them, but that He may try some of you by means of others; and (as for) those who are slain in the way of Allah, He will by no means allow their deeds to perish. Dr. Ghali : So when you meet the ones who have disbelieved, then it is striking of the necks until, when you have subjugated (Wrongly understood by Arberry and others to mean "slaughter") them, then uphold the bonds; (i.e., take them captives) then (it is) either being bounteous (i.e., "showing" bounty by setting them free) hereafter (to them), or (exacting) ransom, until the war lays down its encumbrances. So it shall be; and if Allah had (so) decided, He would have vindicated Himself upon them; but that He may try some of you by means of others (Literally: by means of some "others"). And the ones who have been killed in the way of Allah, then He will never send their deeds into error. Tafsir Jalalayn : So when you encounter [in battle] those who disbelieve, then [attack them with] a striking of the necks (fa-darba’l-riqābi is a verbal noun in place of the [full] verbal construction, that is to say, fa’dribū riqābahum, ‘then strike their necks’), in other words, slay them — reference is made to the ‘striking of the necks’ because the predominant cause of being slayed is to be struck in the neck. Then, when you have made thoroughly decimated them, bind, spare them, take them captive and bind firmly, the bonds (al-wathāq is what is used to bind [yūthaqu] a captive). Thereafter either [set them free] by grace (mannan is a verbal noun in place of the [full] verbal construction), that is to say, either show them grace by setting them free unconditionally; or by ransom, ransoming them with payment or with Muslim captives, until the war, that is to say, its participants, lay down its burdens, its heavy loads of weaponry and other things, so that either the disbelievers surrender or enter into a treaty. This [last clause] constitutes the ‘purpose’ of [enjoining the Muslims to] slaying and taking captive. So [shall it be] (dhālika is the predicate of an implied subject, [such as] al-amr, ‘the ordinance’, in other words, ‘the ordinance [of God] regarding them is as mentioned’). And had God willed, He could have [Himself] taken vengeance on them, without any fighting, but, He has commanded you to [do] it, that He may test some of you by means of others, from among them, by way of battle, so that the slain among you will end up in Paradise, while those [slain] among them [will end up] in the Fire. And those who are slain (qutilū: a variant reading has qātalū, ‘those who fight’) — this verse was revealed on the day of [the battle of] Uhud, after the dead and the wounded had become numerous among the Muslims — in the way of God, He will not let their works go to waste, He will [not] render [them] void.
47:5Hassanor Alapa : Sa matatankd a thoroon Iyan siran ago pagompiaan Iyan so btad iran Muhsin Khan : He will guide them and set right their state. Sahih International : He will guide them and amend their condition Pickthall : He will guide them and improve their state, Yusuf Ali : Soon will He guide them and improve their condition, Shakir : He will guide them and improve their condition. Dr. Ghali : He will soon guide them and make righteous their state, Tafsir Jalalayn : He will guide them, in this world and in the Hereafter to what benefits them, and rightly dispose their minds, their condition in both, with that [guidance and disposal] in this world being for those who were not slain, but who have been included in [the statement] ‘and those who were slain’ (qutilū) because of [the] predominance therein [of those who were slain]. Tagalog : At gagabayan sila tungo sa pagsunod sa kagustuhan ng Allâh at sa mga gawaing kalugud-lugod sa Kanya, at itutuwid sila rito sa daigdig at sa Kabilang-Buhay, 47:6Hassanor Alapa : Go izold Iyan siran ko sorga a so piakikilala niyan kiran (a mithatanosan sa pantag kiran) Muhsin Khan : And admit them to Paradise which He has made known to them (i.e. they will know their places in Paradise more than they used to know their houses in the world). Sahih International : And admit them to Paradise, which He has made known to them. Pickthall : And bring them in unto the Garden which He hath made known to them. Yusuf Ali : And admit them to the Garden which He has announced for them. Shakir : And cause them to enter the garden which He has made known to them. Dr. Ghali : And He will cause them to enter the Garden that He has acquainted them with. Tafsir Jalalayn : And He will admit them into Paradise, which He has made known, [which] He has pointed out, to them, so that they are guided to their dwellings in it, and to their spouses and servants without asking to be shown the way. Tagalog : At papapasukin sila sa ‘Al-Jannah’ (Hardin) na siyang nilinaw at ipinakilala sa kanila. 47:7Hassanor Alapa : Hay so miamaratiaya amay ka tabangan iyo so Allāh na tabangan kano Niyan, ago tatapn Iyan so manga palo niyo (ko kathidawa) Muhsin Khan : O you who believe! If you help (in the cause of) Allah, He will help you, and make your foothold firm. Sahih International : O you who have believed, if you support Allah , He will support you and plant firmly your feet. Pickthall : O ye who believe! If ye help Allah, He will help you and will make your foothold firm. Yusuf Ali : O ye who believe! If ye will aid (the cause of) Allah, He will aid you, and plant your feet firmly. Shakir : O you who believe! if you help (the cause of) Allah, He will help you and make firm your feet. Dr. Ghali : O you who have believed, in case you vindicate Allah, He will give you victory and confirm your feet (i.e., give you victory). Tafsir Jalalayn : O you who believe! If you help God, that is to say, His religion and His Messenger, He will help you, against your enemy, and make your foothold firm, He will make you stand firm [while you fight] on the battleground. 47:8Hassanor Alapa : So siran oto a manga kafir na rk iran so kapaka-dapanas ago inilang Iyan so manga galbk iran Muhsin Khan : But those who disbelieve (in the Oneness of Allah Islamic Monotheism), for them is destruction, and (Allah) will make their deeds vain. Sahih International : But those who disbelieve - for them is misery, and He will waste their deeds. Pickthall : And those who disbelieve, perdition is for them, and He will make their actions vain. Yusuf Ali : But those who reject (Allah),- for them is destruction, and (Allah) will render their deeds astray (from their mark). Shakir : And (as for) those who disbelieve, for them is destruction and He has made their deeds ineffective. Dr. Ghali : And the ones who have disbelieved, then misfortune is for them, and He will make their deeds to err away. Tafsir Jalalayn : And as for those who disbelieve, from among the people of Mecca (wa’lladhīna kafarū is the subject, the predicate of which is [an implicit] ta‘isū, ‘they shall be wretched’, as indicated [by what follows]) wretchedness shall be their lot, that is, destruction and defeat from God. And He will make their works go to waste (wa-adalla a‘mālahum is a supplement to [the implied] ta‘isū, ‘they shall be wretched’). That is because they hate that which Allah has sent down (this Quran and Islamic laws, etc.), so He has made their deeds fruitless. Sahih International : That is because they disliked what Allah revealed, so He rendered worthless their deeds. Pickthall : That is because they are averse to that which Allah hath revealed, therefor maketh He their actions fruitless. Yusuf Ali : That is because they hate the Revelation of Allah; so He has made their deeds fruitless. Shakir : That is because they hated what Allah revealed, so He rendered their deeds null. Dr. Ghali : That is for that they hate what Allah has sent down, so He has frustrated their deeds. Tafsir Jalalayn : That, wretchedness and wasting [of their works], is because they are averse to what God has revealed, of the Qur’ān with all that it includes of religious obligations (takālīf), so He has made their works fail. Tagalog : Dahil sa kinamuhian nila ang Aklat ng Allâh na ipinahayag sa Kanyang Propeta na si Muhammad, at di nila pinaniwalaan, na kung kaya, naging walang kabuluhan ang kanilang gawain na ito ay kanilang ginawa upang sundin si ‘Shaytân.’ 47:10Hassanor Alapa : Ba siran da makandalakaw ko lopa na ilaya iran o antonaa i kiabolosan o siran oto a 1530 miaonaan iran a inantior siran o Allāh ago rk o manga kafir so manga datar iyan. Muhsin Khan : Have they not travelled through the earth, and seen what was the end of those before them? Allah destroyed them completely and a similar (fate awaits) the disbelievers. Sahih International : Have they not traveled through the land and seen how was the end of those before them? Allah destroyed [everything] over them, and for the disbelievers is something comparable. Pickthall : Have they not travelled in the land to see the nature of the consequence for those who were before them? Allah wiped them out. And for the disbelievers there will be the like thereof. Yusuf Ali : Do they not travel through the earth, and see what was the End of those before them (who did evil)? Allah brought utter destruction on them, and similar (fates await) those who reject Allah. Shakir : Have they not then journeyed in the land and seen how was the end of those before them: Allah brought down destruction upon them, and the unbelievers shall have the like of it. Dr. Ghali : Then have they not traveled in the earth (and) so looked into how was the end of the ones even before them? Allah destroyed (their houses) above them, and the disbelievers will have the likes thereof. Tafsir Jalalayn : Have they not travelled in the land to see the nature of the consequence for those who were before them? God destroyed them — He destroyed them, their children and their possessions; and [a fate] the like thereof will be for the disbelievers, that is to say, the like of the fate of those before them. 47:11Hassanor Alapa : Gioto, na mataan a so Allāh na Salinggogopa o siran oto a miamaratiaya, na so manga kafir na da a salinggogopa iran Muhsin Khan : That is because Allah is the Maula (Lord, Master, Helper, Protector, etc.) of those who believe, and the disbelievers have no Maula (lord, master, helper, protector, etc.). Sahih International : That is because Allah is the protector of those who have believed and because the disbelievers have no protector. Pickthall : That is because Allah is patron of those who believe, and because the disbelievers have no patron. Yusuf Ali : That is because Allah is the Protector of those who believe, but those who reject Allah have no protector. Shakir : That is because Allah is the Protector of those who believe, and because the unbelievers shall have no protector for them. Dr. Ghali : That is for that Allah is the Supreme Patronizer of the ones who have believed and (for) that the disbelievers have no patronizer. Tafsir Jalalayn : That, granting of victory to the believers and the vanquishing of the disbelievers, is because God is Patron, Ally and Helper, of those who believe and because the disbelievers have no patron. 47:12Hassanor Alapa : Mataan a so Allāh na izold Iyan so siran oto a miamaratiaya ago minggagalbk sa manga pipia sa manga kasorgaan a pphamanoga ko kababaan iyan so manga lawas a ig, na so siran oto a manga kafir na pzawit siran ago pkhan siran sa datar o 1531 kapphanathab o manga ayam (binatang) na so Naraka na aya iran darpa Muhsin Khan : Certainly! Allah will admit those who believe (in the Oneness of Allah Islamic Monotheism) and do righteous good deeds, to Gardens under which rivers flow (Paradise), while those who disbelieve enjoy themselves and eat as cattle eat, and the Fire will be their abode. Sahih International : Indeed, Allah will admit those who have believed and done righteous deeds to gardens beneath which rivers flow, but those who disbelieve enjoy themselves and eat as grazing livestock eat, and the Fire will be a residence for them. Pickthall : Lo! Allah will cause those who believe and do good works to enter Gardens underneath which rivers flow; while those who disbelieve take their comfort in this life and eat even as the cattle eat, and the Fire is their habitation. Yusuf Ali : Verily Allah will admit those who believe and do righteous deeds, to Gardens beneath which rivers flow; while those who reject Allah will enjoy (this world) and eat as cattle eat; and the Fire will be their abode. Shakir : Surely Allah will make those who believe and do good enter gardens beneath which rivers flow; and those who disbelieve enjoy themselves and eat as the beasts eat, and the fire is their abode. Dr. Ghali : Surely Allah will cause the ones who have believed and done deeds of righteousness to enter Gardens from beneath which rivers run; and the ones who have disbelieved take their enjoyment and eat even as cattle (Ancam includes cattle, camels, sheep and goats) eat; and the Fire will be their lodging. Tafsir Jalalayn : God will surely admit those who believe and perform righteous deeds into gardens underneath which rivers flow. As for those who disbelieve, they take their enjoyment, in this world, and eat as the cattle eat, that is to say, they are only concerned with [filling] their bellies and [satisfying] their private parts, without giving any thought to the Hereafter; and the Fire will be their habitation, their home, their station and their [final] destination. 47:13Hassanor Alapa : Go madakl a pd sa lipongan a skaniyan na mabasng i bagr a di so lipongan ka (hay Muhammad) a so piakaliyo ka niyan, a inantior Ami siran na da a 1532 miakatabang kiran Muhsin Khan : And many a town, stronger than your town (Makkah) (O Muhammad SAW) which has driven you out We have destroyed. And there was none to help them. Sahih International : And how many a city was stronger than your city [Makkah] which drove you out? We destroyed them; and there was no helper for them. Pickthall : And how many a township stronger than thy township (O Muhammad) which hath cast thee out, have We destroyed, and they had no helper! Yusuf Ali : And how many cities, with more power than thy city which has driven thee out, have We destroyed (for their sins)? and there was none to aid them. Shakir : And how many a town which was far more powerful than the town of yours which has driven you out: We destroyed them so there was no helper for them. Dr. Ghali : And (similarly) how many a town that was more valiant in power than your town, which has driven you out, have We caused to perish! So there was no vindicator for them. Tafsir Jalalayn : And how many (ka-ayyin means kam) a town, by which is meant the inhabitants thereof, mightier in power than your town, Mecca, that is to say, its inhabitants, which expelled you (akhrajatka [is feminine despite the plural sense of inhabitants meant is because it] takes into account the [feminine] form of qarya, ‘town’), have We destroyed (ahlaknāhum takes into account the former [plural] import of qarya, ‘town’), and they had none to help them, against Our destruction [of them]. Tagalog : At gaano karaming bayan ang mas matindi pa ang kanilang kapangyarihan kaysa sa mga iyong sambayanan, O Muhammad, na nakatira sa Makkah, na kung saan, pinalayas ka nila mula roon, subali’t winasak pa rin Namin sila ng iba’t ibang parusa at walang sinuman ang naging katulong nila upang tulungan na iligtas sila mula sa kaparusahan ng Allâh 47:14Hassanor Alapa : Ba so taw a madadalm sa toroan a phoon ko Kadnan iyan na ba datar o taw a piphandaraan on so karata o galbk iyan, go inonotan iran so manga baya a ginawa iran (di siran makaphlagid) Muhsin Khan : Is he who is on a clear proof from his Lord, like those for whom their evil deeds that they do are beautified for them, while they follow their own lusts (evil desires)? Pickthall : Is he who relieth on a clear proof from his Lord like those for whom the evil that they do is beautified while they follow their own lusts? Yusuf Ali : Is then one who is on a clear (Path) from his Lord, no better than one to whom the evil of his conduct seems pleasing, and such as follow their own lusts? Shakir : What! is he who has a clear argument from his Lord like him to whom the evil of his work is made fairseeming: and they follow their low desires. Dr. Ghali : Then is he who is upon a supreme evidence from his Lord like him whose odious deeds have been adorned (i.e., made attractive) for him, and (such as) have closely followed their prejudices? Tafsir Jalalayn : Is he who follows a clear sign, a definitive argument and proof, from his Lord, and these are the believers, like those whose evil deeds have been adorned for them, so that they see them as fair [deeds], and these are the disbelievers of Mecca, and who follow their desires?, by worshipping graven images. Tafsir Jalalayn : Know, then, that there is no god except God, that is to say, adhere, O Muhammad (s), to knowledge of this [fact] that will benefit you at the Resurrection, and ask forgiveness for your sin — this was said to him, despite his infallibility (‘isma), so that his community might emulate him [in this respect]. Indeed he did do this. The Prophet (s) said, ‘Verily I do ask God for forgiveness a hundred times every day’ — and for the believing men and believing women — herein is an honouring for them, by having their Prophet enjoined to ask forgiveness for them. Tafsir Jalalayn : That, leading of them astray, is because they said to those who were averse to what God revealed, namely, to the idolaters: ‘We will obey you in some matters’, that is to say, by cooperating to maintain enmity against the Prophet (s) and preventing people from participating in the struggle alongside him: they had said as much secretly, but God, exalted be He, exposed it; and God knows their secrets (read asrārahum, as the plural of sirr, ‘a secret’, or isrārahum, ‘their keeping [of things] secret’, as the verbal noun). Shakir : That is because they follow what is displeasing to Allah and are averse to His pleasure, therefore He has made null their deeds. Dr. Ghali : That is for that they have closely followed what causes wrath from Allah and hated His all-blessed Satisfaction; so He frustrated their deeds. Tafsir Jalalayn : That, taking of them away in the state mentioned, is because they followed what angers God, and [because] they were averse to what pleases Him, that is to say, [they were averse to] doing what pleases Him.
