Sahih International : By the star when it descends, Pickthall : By the Star when it setteth, Yusuf Ali : By the Star when it goes down,- Shakir : I swear by the star when it goes down. Dr. Ghali : And (by) the Star when it tumbles down. Tafsir Jalalayn : By the Star — the constellation Pleiades (al-thurayya) — when it sets, [when] it disappears, Tagalog : Sumumpa ang Allâh sa pamamagitan ng bituin kapag ito ay lumubog (o naglaho), 53:2Hassanor Alapa : Ka da madadag so bolayoka iyo ago da mataap (so Mohammad) Muhsin Khan : Your companion (Muhammad SAW) has neither gone astray nor has erred. Sahih International : Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred, Pickthall : Your comrade erreth not, nor is deceived; Yusuf Ali : Your Companion is neither astray nor being misled. Shakir : Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray; Dr. Ghali : In no way has your companion (The Prophet) erred, and in no way is he misguided. Tafsir Jalalayn : your companion, Muhammad (s), may God bless him and grant him peace, has neither gone astray, from the path of guidance, nor has he erred, nor has he engaged in error (al-ghayy is ignorance that results from a false belief); Tagalog : Kailanman ay hindi lumihis si Muhammad sa Daan ng Patnubay at Katotohanan, at hindi lumabas sa Gabay kundi siya ay nasa tunay at ganap na pagiging matuwid at pagiging totoo, 53:3Hassanor Alapa : Da a ptharoon iyan a pagokit sa baya a ginawa niyan 1621 Muhsin Khan : Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. Sahih International : Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination. Pickthall : Nor doth he speak of (his own) desire. Yusuf Ali : Nor does he say (aught) of (his own) Desire. Shakir : Nor does he speak out of desire. Dr. Ghali : And in no way does he pronounce (any word) out of prejudice. Tafsir Jalalayn : nor does he, in regard to what he brings you, speak out of [his own] desire, [out of] the whims of his soul. Tagalog : At ang kanyang sinasabi ay hindi nagmula sa kanyang sariling kagustuhan, 53:4Hassanor Alapa : Da skaniyan a rowar sa wahī a iphagwahi ron Muhsin Khan : It is only an Inspiration that is inspired. Sahih International : It is not but a revelation revealed, Pickthall : It is naught save an inspiration that is inspired, Yusuf Ali : It is no less than inspiration sent down to him: Shakir : It is naught but revelation that is revealed, Dr. Ghali : Decidedly it is nothing except a revelation revealed. Tafsir Jalalayn : It is but a revelation that is revealed, to him, Tagalog : Kundi ang Qur’ân at ang Sunnah ay walang iba kundi kapahayagan na mula sa Allâh tungo sa Kanyang Propeta na si Muhammad. 53:5Hassanor Alapa : Piangndao skaniyan o mabasng i kabagr 1622 Muhsin Khan : He has been taught (this Quran) by one mighty in power [Jibrael (Gabriel)]. Sahih International : Taught to him by one intense in strength - Pickthall : Which one of mighty powers hath taught him, Yusuf Ali : He was taught by one Mighty in Power, Shakir : The Lord of Mighty Power has taught him, Dr. Ghali : One of valiant powers has taught him. Tafsir Jalalayn : it is, taught to him by, an angel, one of awesome power, Tagalog : Tinuruan si Muhammad (saw) ng anghel na makapangyarihan at, 53:6Hassanor Alapa : A khirk sa bagr (odi na bontal a kataid) sa mimbatang ko bontal iyan Muhsin Khan : Dhu Mirrah (free from any defect in body and mind), Fastawa [then he (Jibrael - Gabriel) rose and became stable]. [Tafsir At-Tabari]. Sahih International : One of soundness. And he rose to [his] true form Pickthall : One vigorous; and he grew clear to view Yusuf Ali : Endued with Wisdom: for he appeared (in stately form); Shakir : The Lord of Strength; so he attained completion, Dr. Ghali : Owner of resolute splendor; (Literally: ability to transform; to convey revelation, i.e. Jibril "Angle Gabriel) so he leveled himself. Tafsir Jalalayn : possessed of vigour, of strength and might (or [alternatively it, dhū mirratin, means] possessed of a beautiful appearance), namely, Gabriel, peace be upon him; and he stood upright, he settled, Tagalog : Nagtataglay ng magandang kaanyuan, na siya ay si Jibril (as) na lumitaw at nagpanatili sa tunay niyang anyo na nagpakita sa Sugo na si Propeta Muhammad, 53:7Hassanor Alapa : A skaniyan na (miphayag) sii ko kawang a maporo Muhsin Khan : While he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] was in the highest part of the horizon, Sahih International : While he was in the higher [part of the] horizon. Pickthall : When he was on the uppermost horizon. Yusuf Ali : While he was in the highest part of the horizon: Shakir : And he is in the highest part of the horizon. Dr. Ghali : (When) he was on the most exalted horizon. Tafsir Jalalayn : when he was on the highest horizon, the horizon of the sun, that is to say, at the place from which it rises, in the form in which he [Gabriel] was created, so that the Prophet (s) saw him; he [the Prophet] had been at [Mount] Hirā’, where Gabriel had obscured the entire horizon to the west. The Prophet fell down swooning, after he had asked him [Gabriel] to show himself to him in the form in which he was created. Thus Gabriel had made a tryst with him at Hirā’, where he came down to him in human form. Tagalog : Na siya ay nasa mataas na bahagi ng ‘Horizon’ o abot-tanaw, 53:8Hassanor Alapa : Oriyan iyan na domiazg sa miakarani (so Jibril) Muhsin Khan : Then he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] approached and came closer, Sahih International : Then he approached and descended Pickthall : Then he drew nigh and came down Yusuf Ali : Then he approached and came closer, Shakir : Then he drew near, then he bowed Dr. Ghali : Thereafter he (came) within reach, then hung suspended, Tafsir Jalalayn : Then he drew near, he came close to him, and drew closer still, Tagalog : Na ito ay nasa bahaging itaas ng araw pagkasikat nito, pagkatapos ay lumapit pa nang mas malapit si anghel Jibril sa Sugo ng Allâh, 53:9Hassanor Alapa : Na miaadn a diankaa lawag a dowa a pana odi na lbi a marani Muhsin Khan : And was at a distance of two bows' length or (even) nearer, Sahih International : And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer. Pickthall : Till he was (distant) two bows' length or even nearer, Yusuf Ali : And was at a distance of but two bow-lengths or (even) nearer; Shakir : So he was the measure of two bows or closer still. Dr. Ghali : So he was at two bows (distance) or (even) closer (still). Tafsir Jalalayn : until he was, from him [the Prophet], within the length of two bows away or [even] nearer, than that, until he [the Prophet] had regained consciousness and his fright had subsided, Tagalog : Na ang kanyang paglapit ay kasinghaba ng pagitan ng dalawang busog ng palaso o mas malapit pa kaysa rito. 53:10Hassanor Alapa : Na iniwahi niyan (a Allāh) ko oripn Iyan (so Mohammad) so nganin a ipagwahi Niyan 1623 Muhsin Khan : So did (Allah) convey the Inspiration to His slave [Muhammad SAW through Jibrael (Gabriel) ]. Sahih International : And he revealed to His Servant what he revealed. Pickthall : And He revealed unto His slave that which He revealed. Yusuf Ali : So did (Allah) convey the inspiration to His Servant- (conveyed) what He (meant) to convey. Shakir : And He revealed to His servant what He revealed. Dr. Ghali : Then He Allah) revealed to His bondman what He revealed. Tafsir Jalalayn : whereat He, [God] exalted be He, revealed to His servant, Gabriel, what he, Gabriel, revealed, to the Prophet (s); the thing being revealed is not mentioned [explicitly] in exaltation of its [great] status. Tagalog : At ipinahayag ng Allâh sa Kanyang alipin na si Muhammad ang anumang Kanyang kapahayagan sa pamamagitan ni Jibril, 53:11Hassanor Alapa : Da pamokhag so poso’ ko nganin a miailay niyan Muhsin Khan : The (Prophet's) heart lied not (in seeing) what he (Muhammad SAW) saw. Sahih International : The heart did not lie [about] what it saw. Pickthall : The heart lied not (in seeing) what it saw. Yusuf Ali : The (Prophet's) (mind and) heart in no way falsified that which he saw. Shakir : The heart was not untrue in (making him see) what he saw. Dr. Ghali : In no way did the heart-sight lie (about) what it saw. Tafsir Jalalayn : The heart, the heart of the Prophet, did not deny (read khadhaba or kadhdhaba) what he saw, with his own eyes of the image of Gabriel. Tagalog : Na kailanma’y hindi pinasinungalingan ng puso ni Muhammad ang anumang nakita ng kanyang mata. 53:12Hassanor Alapa : Ba niyo gii pakambokhaga skaniyan sii ko nganin a phkhailay niyan 1624 Muhsin Khan : Will you then dispute with him (Muhammad SAW) about what he saw [during the Mi'raj: (Ascent of the Prophet SAW over the seven heavens)]. Sahih International : So will you dispute with him over what he saw? Pickthall : Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he seeth? Yusuf Ali : Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he saw? Shakir : What! do you then dispute with him as to what he saw? Dr. Ghali : Will you then wrangle with him about what he sees? Tafsir Jalalayn : Will you then dispute with him, will you [then] argue with him and [hope to] overwhelm him, concerning what he saw? — an address to the idolaters who denied the Prophet’s (s) vision of Gabriel. Tagalog : Pasisinungalingan ba ninyo kung gayon si Muhammad at makikipagtalo kayo sa kanya sa anumang kanyang napagmasdan at nakita na mga palatandaan ng Allâh na kanyang ‘Rabb’ na Tagapaglikha? 53:13Hassanor Alapa : Go sabnar a miailay niyan skaniyan (a Jibrīl) pharoman sa darpa a salakaw 1625 Muhsin Khan : And indeed he (Muhammad SAW) saw him [Jibrael (Gabriel)] at a second descent (i.e. another time). Sahih International : And he certainly saw him in another descent Pickthall : And verily he saw him yet another time Yusuf Ali : For indeed he saw him at a second descent, Shakir : And certainly he saw him in another descent, Dr. Ghali : And indeed he did already see him (during) another descent, Tafsir Jalalayn : And verily he saw him, in his [true] image, another time, Tagalog : At katiyakang nakita ni Muhammad si Jibril (as) nang pangalawang pagkakataon doon sa ‘Sidrat Al-Muntahâ’ – 53:14Hassanor Alapa : Sii ko Sidrat al Muntahā Muhsin Khan : Near Sidrat-ul-Muntaha [lote-tree of the utmost boundary (beyond which none can pass)], Sahih International : At the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary - Pickthall : By the lote-tree of the utmost boundary, Yusuf Ali : Near the Lote-tree beyond which none may pass: Shakir : At the farthest lote-tree; Dr. Ghali : At the Lote-Tree of the Utmost Boundary. Tafsir Jalalayn : by the Lote-tree of the Ultimate Boundary, when he was carried on the night journey [up] through the heavens — this [lote-tree] is a nabk thorn-tree [that lies] to the right of the Throne (‘arsh), [the tree] beyond which no angel or any other being pass; Tagalog : Isang puno ng Sidr, na ito ay nasa pinakadulong lugar ng pitong kalangitan, na roon nagtatapos ang anumang iniaakyat mula sa kalupaan at ganoon din ang lahat ng ibinababa mula sa lugar na kataas-taasan, 53:15Hassanor Alapa : A ron matatago so sorga a pmbthowan sa Jannah al Ma’wā Muhsin Khan : Near it is the Paradise of Abode. Sahih International : Near it is the Garden of Refuge - Pickthall : Nigh unto which is the Garden of Abode. Yusuf Ali : Near it is the Garden of Abode. Shakir : Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. Dr. Ghali : At it is the Garden of the Abode. Tafsir Jalalayn : near which is the Garden of the Retreat, to which the angels, the spirits of martyrs and the pious retreat; Tagalog : At nandoroon ang ‘Al-Jannah’ (Hardin) na ipinangakong patutunguhan ng mga matakutin sa Allâh, 53:16Hassanor Alapa : Gowani a kakolam-bowan so kayo a Sidrah sa phangolambo (a tihaya o Allāh) Muhsin Khan : When that covered the lote-tree which did cover it! Sahih International : When there covered the Lote Tree that which covered [it]. Pickthall : When that which shroudeth did enshroud the lote-tree, Yusuf Ali : Behold, the Lote-tree was shrouded (in mystery unspeakable!) Shakir : When that which covers covered the lote-tree; Dr. Ghali : As that which envelops did envelop the Lote-Tree. Tafsir Jalalayn : when there shrouded the Lote-tree that which shrouded [it], of flying creatures and other [beings] (idh, ‘when’, is operated by ra’āhu, ‘he saw him’), Tagalog : Kapag natakpan na ang puno ng Sidr ng anumang nakatatakip nito (na katulad ng liwanag at panlatag na gawa sa ginto) na yaon ay kabilang sa dakilang bagay hinggil sa Allâh na walang sinuman ang nakaaalam nito kundi ang Allâh . 53:17Hassanor Alapa : Da makasilay so kailay ago da makalampas Muhsin Khan : The sight (of Prophet Muhammad SAW) turned not aside (right or left), nor it transgressed beyond (the) limit (ordained for it). Sahih International : The sight [of the Prophet] did not swerve, nor did it transgress [its limit]. Pickthall : The eye turned not aside nor yet was overbold. Yusuf Ali : (His) sight never swerved, nor did it go wrong! Shakir : The eye did not turn aside, nor did it exceed the limit. Dr. Ghali : In no way did (his) beholding (i.e., the eyesight) swerve, and in no way was it inordinate. Tafsir Jalalayn : The eye did not swerve, on the part of the Prophet (s), nor did it go beyond [the bounds], that is to say, his gaze did not turn away from the object of vision designated for it, nor did it go beyond that [object] on that night. Tagalog : At ang Propeta Muhammad na nasa kanya ang dakilang katangian na katatagan ng paniniwala at pagsunod, ay hindi bumaling ang kanyang paningin sa kanan man o kaliwa, at hindi niya nalampasan ang anumang ipinag-utos ng Allâh na kanyang makikita. 53:18Hassanor Alapa : Sabnar a miailay niyan so pd ko manga tanda o Kadnan iyan a manga ala Muhsin Khan : Indeed he (Muhammad SAW) did see, of the Greatest Signs, of his Lord (Allah). Sahih International : He certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. Pickthall : Verily he saw one of the greater revelations of his Lord. Yusuf Ali : For truly did he see, of the Signs of his Lord, the Greatest! Shakir : Certainly he saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. Dr. Ghali : Indeed he has already seen of the signs of his Lord, the greatest. Tafsir Jalalayn : Verily he saw, in it, some of the greatest signs of his Lord, [some of] the most awesome [of these signs]. He thus saw from among the marvels of the Realm (malakūt) a green drape (rafraf) that obscured the [entire] horizon of the heaven and Gabriel with his six hundred wings. Have you then considered Al-Lat, and Al-'Uzza (two idols of the pagan Arabs). Sahih International : So have you considered al-Lat and al-'Uzza? Pickthall : Have ye thought upon Al-Lat and Al-'Uzza Yusuf Ali : Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza, Shakir : Have you then considered the Lat and the Uzza, Dr. Ghali : Have you then seen Al-Lat and Al- cUzza, Tafsir Jalalayn : Have you considered al-Lāt and al-‘Uzzā, Tagalog : Na kung kaya, ano naman masasabi ninyo, O kayong mga sumasamba ng iba bukod sa Allâh , sa mga diyus-diyosan na ito na inyong sinasamba: si ‘Al-Lât,’ si ‘Al-`Uzzâ’ 53:20Hassanor Alapa : Ago so Manāh a ika tlo a salakaw Muhsin Khan : And Manat (another idol of the pagan Arabs), the other third? Sahih International : And Manat, the third - the other one? Pickthall : And Manat, the third, the other? Yusuf Ali : And another, the third (goddess), Manat? Shakir : And Manat, the third, the last? Dr. Ghali : And Manat, (These are the names of idols) the third, the other? Tafsir Jalalayn : and Manāt, the third, of the preceding two, the other? (al-ukhrā, a derogatory qualification of the third one). These were stone idols which the idolaters worshipped and which they claimed interceded for them with God (the first direct object of a-fa-ra’aytum, ‘have you seen’, is al-Lāt and what has been supplemented thereto; the second [direct object] has been omitted). The meaning then is, ‘Inform Me: do these idols have the power over anything, such that you worship them besides God Who has the power over all that has been mentioned?’ And because of their assertion also that the angels were God’s daughters, despite their aversion to daughters, the following was revealed: Tagalog : At ‘Al-Manât’ na pangatlo, nakapagdulot ba sila ng kapakinabangan o nakapagsanhi ba sila ng kapahamakan upang sila ay ituring na mga katambal ng Allâh ? 53:21Hassanor Alapa : Ba niyo rk so (wata) a mama na rk Iyan so (wata) a babay Muhsin Khan : Is it for you the males and for Him the females? Sahih International : Is the male for you and for Him the female? Pickthall : Are yours the males and His the females? Yusuf Ali : What! for you the male sex, and for Him, the female? Shakir : What! for you the males and for Him the females! Dr. Ghali : Do you have the male (s) and He the female (s)? Tafsir Jalalayn : Are you to have males, and He females? Tagalog : Pinili ba ninyo para sa inyo ang mga anak na kalalakihan na ito ang inyong kinalulugdan, 53:22Hassanor Alapa : Gioto na mataan a kambagibagi a lalim 1627 Muhsin Khan : That indeed is a division most unfair! Sahih International : That, then, is an unjust division. Pickthall : That indeed were an unfair division! Yusuf Ali : Behold, such would be indeed a division most unfair! Shakir : This indeed is an unjust division! Dr. Ghali : Lo, that were (really) a division most unreasonable. Tafsir Jalalayn : That, then, would indeed be an unfair division! (dīzān, ‘unfair’, derives from dāzahu, yadīzuhu, to mean: ‘he wronged him’, ‘he was unjust to him’). Tagalog : At itinangi ninyo sa Allâh ayon sa inyong pag-aangkin ang mga anak na kababaihan na hindi kayang tanggapin ng inyong mga sarili? Yaon ang pinakasukdulang hindi makatarungang pagbabaha-bahagi. 53:23Hassanor Alapa : Da skaniyan a rowar sa manga ingaran a inipamtho niyo skaniyan ago so manga apo iyo a da a initoron on o Allāh a pd sa tanda, da a phagonotan iran a rowar sa antaan a pamikiran ago so pkhababayaan o manga ginawa, go sabnar a miakaoma kiran a phoon ko Kadnan iran so toroan, Muhsin Khan : They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord! Sahih International : They are not but [mere] names you have named them - you and your forefathers - for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow not except assumption and what [their] souls desire, and there has already come to them from their Lord guidance. Pickthall : They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them. Yusuf Ali : These are nothing but names which ye have devised,- ye and your fathers,- for which Allah has sent down no authority (whatever). They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own souls desire!- Even though there has already come to them Guidance from their Lord! Shakir : They are naught but names which you have named, you and your fathers; Allah has not sent for them any authority. They follow naught but conjecture and the low desires which (their) souls incline to; and certainly the guidance has come to them from their Lord. Dr. Ghali : Decidedly they are nothing except names you have named, you and your fathers. In no way has Allah sent down concerning them any all-binding authority. Decidedly they closely follow nothing except surmise and what (prejudices) the selves yearn to; and indeed the guidance has already come to them from their Lord. Tafsir Jalalayn : These, that is, the mentioned [deities], are nothing but names which you have named, by which you have named, you and your fathers, idols that you worship. God has not revealed any warrant, [any] proof or evidence, for them, that is to say, [for] the worship of them. They follow nothing but conjecture, in their worship of them, and that which [ignoble] souls desire, of that which Satan adorned for them, that they may intercede for them before God, exalted be He, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord, by the tongue of the Prophet (s), with definitive proof; yet they do not desist from their ways. 53:24Hassanor Alapa : Go kna ba rk o manosiya so (langowan) a nganin a gii niyan zimalawn (a mapia) Muhsin Khan : Or shall man have what he wishes? Sahih International : Or is there for man whatever he wishes? Pickthall : Or shall man have what he coveteth? Yusuf Ali : Nay, shall man have (just) anything he hankers after? Shakir : Or shall man have what he wishes? Dr. Ghali : Or even should man have whatever he covets? Tafsir Jalalayn : Or shall man, that is, shall every human being among them, have whatever he wishes for?, such as [their wish] that the idols intercede for them. [No!] It is not so. Tagalog : O wala sa kakayahan ng tao ang anumang hinahangad niyang tulong mula sa kanyang mga sinasamba ? 53:25Hassanor Alapa : Sa rk o Allāh so kaposan ago so paganay (so akhirat ago so doniya) Muhsin Khan : But to Allah belongs the last (Hereafter) and the first (the world). Sahih International : Rather, to Allah belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. Pickthall : But unto Allah belongeth the after (life), and the former. Yusuf Ali : But it is to Allah that the End and the Beginning (of all things) belong. Shakir : Nay! for Allah is the hereafter and the former (life). Dr. Ghali : Yet, to Allah belongs the Hereafter, and the First (life). Tafsir Jalalayn : Yet to God belong the Hereafter and the former [life], that is to say, [the life of] the world, and so nothing comes to pass in them except what He, exalted, wills. Tagalog : O sa ibang bagay na pinagnanasaan ng kanyang sarili kundi Bukod-Tangi lamang na Pagmamay-ari ng Allâh ang anumang bagay sa daigdig at sa Kabilang-Buhay. 53:26Hassanor Alapa : Madakl a pd sa malāikat ko manga langit a di 1628 phakanggay a gona so sapaat iran sa mlk bo inonta bo ko oriyan o kaidini o Allāh ko taw a khabayaan Iyan ago ikhasoat Iyan Muhsin Khan : And there are many angels in the heavens, whose intercession will avail nothing except after Allah has given leave for whom He wills and pleases. Sahih International : And how many angels there are in the heavens whose intercession will not avail at all except [only] after Allah has permitted [it] to whom He wills and approves. Pickthall : And how many angels are in the heavens whose intercession availeth naught save after Allah giveth leave to whom He chooseth and accepteth. Yusuf Ali : How many-so-ever be the angels in the heavens, their intercession will avail nothing except after Allah has given leave for whom He pleases and that he is acceptable to Him. Shakir : And how many an angel is there in the heavens whose intercession does not avail at all except after Allah has given permission to whom He pleases and chooses. Dr. Ghali : And how many an Angel (there is) in the heavens whose intercession does not avail anything except even after Allah gives permission to whomever He decides and He is satisfied. Tafsir Jalalayn : And how many an angel, that is to say, many an angel, there is in the heavens, and how honoured they are in God’s sight [but], whose intercession cannot avail in any way except after God gives permission, to them for this [intercession], for whomever He wills, of His servants, and, with whom, He is satisfied, because of His saying: and they do not intercede except for him with whom He is satisfied [Q. 21:28]. It is also well-known that it [intercession] cannot be forthcoming from them except after permission for it has been granted: who is there that shall intercede with Him save with His leave [Q. 2:255]. Tagalog : At karamihan sa mga anghel sa mga kalangitan gaano man kataas ang kanilang mga antas ay walang pakinabang ang kanilang pamamagitan maliban kung pahintulutan sila ng Allâh na mamagitan o tutulong, at naging kalugud-lugod sa Allâh ang sinuman na kanilang tutulungan. 53:27Hassanor Alapa : Mataan a so siran oto a di ran paparatiayaan so alongan a maori na disomala a pphamthowan iran so mnga malāikat sa ngaran a babay 1629 Muhsin Khan : Verily, those who believe not in the Hereafter, name the angels with female names. Sahih International : Indeed, those who do not believe in the Hereafter name the angels female names, Pickthall : Lo! it is those who disbelieve in the Hereafter who name the angels with the names of females. Yusuf Ali : Those who believe not in the Hereafter, name the angels with female names. Shakir : Most surely they who do not believe in the hereafter name the angels with female names. Dr. Ghali : Surely the ones who do not believe in the Hereafter do indeed name the Angels with female naming. Tafsir Jalalayn : Truly those who do not believe in the Hereafter give the angels the names of females, for they say: ‘They are God’s daughters’. They follow but a guess, and lo! a guess can never take the place of the truth. Yusuf Ali : But they have no knowledge therein. They follow nothing but conjecture; and conjecture avails nothing against Truth. Shakir : And they have no knowledge of it; they do not follow anything but conjecture, and surely conjecture does not avail against the truth at all. Dr. Ghali : And in no way do they have any knowledge thereof. Decidedly they closely follow (nothing) except surmise, and surely surmise does not avail anything against the Truth. Tafsir Jalalayn : But they do not have any knowledge thereof, of this claim. They follow, in this [respect], nothing but conjecture, which they have conjured up, and indeed conjecture can never substitute for the truth, that is to say, when it comes to acquiring knowledge of that which one is required to have knowledge of. Yusuf Ali : Therefore shun those who turn away from Our Message and desire nothing but the life of this world. Shakir : Therefore turn aside from him who turns his back upon Our reminder and does not desire anything but this world's life. Dr. Ghali : So veer away from him who turns back from Our Remembrance and is not willing (to seek anything) except the present life (Literally: the lowly life, i.e., the life of this world). Tafsir Jalalayn : So shun him who turns away from Our Remembrance, that is, [from] the Qur’ān, and desires nothing but the life of this world — this was [revealed] before the command to struggle [against the disbelievers]. Dr. Ghali : That is their attainment of knowledge. Surely your Lord is He Who knows best the ones who have erred away from His way, and He knows best the ones who are guided. Tafsir Jalalayn : That, namely, the desire of this world, is the full extent of their knowledge, that is, the limit of their knowledge, namely, that they have preferred this life to [that of] the Hereafter. Yusuf Ali : Yea, to Allah belongs all that is in the heavens and on earth: so that He rewards those who do evil, according to their deeds, and He rewards those who do good, with what is best. Shakir : And Allah's is what is in the heavens and what is in the earth, that He may reward those who do evil according to what they do, and (that) He may reward those who do good with goodness. Dr. Ghali : And to Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth that He may recompense the ones who have done odious (deeds) for what they have done and recompense the ones who have done fair (deeds) with the fairest reward, Tafsir Jalalayn : And to God belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth, that is, He owns [all of] that, among which [also] are the misguided one and the [rightly] guided one, leading astray whomever He will and guiding whomever He will, that He may requite those who do evil for what they have done, by way of idolatry and otherwise, and reward those who are virtuous, by [their] affirmation of [God’s] Oneness and other acts of obedience, with the best [reward], namely, Paradise. Sahih International : Those who avoid the major sins and immoralities, only [committing] slight ones. Indeed, your Lord is vast in forgiveness. He is Best Aware of you (from the time) when He created you from the earth, and when ye were hidden in the bellies of your mothers. Therefor ascribe not purity unto yourselves. He is Best Aware of him who wardeth off (evil). Yusuf Ali : Those who avoid great sins and shameful deeds, only (falling into) small faults,- verily thy Lord is ample in forgiveness. He knows you well when He brings you out of the earth, And when ye are hidden in your mothers' wombs. Therefore justify not yourselves: He knows best who it is that guards against evil. Shakir : Those who keep aloof from the great sins and the indecencies but the passing idea; surely your Lord is liberal in forgiving. He knows you best when He brings you forth from the earth and when you are embryos in the wombs of your mothers; therefore do not attribute purity to your souls; He knows him best who guards (against evil). Dr. Ghali : The ones who avoid the great (kinds) of vice and obscenities, except lesser offences; surely your Lord is Ever-Embracing in (His) forgiveness. He knows you best, as He brought you into being from the earth, and as you were embryos in your mothers' bellies; so do not (consider) yourselves cleansed; (only) He knows best him who is pious. Tafsir Jalalayn : Those who avoid grave sins and abominations, excepting lesser offences, that is, minor sins, such as a look, a kiss or a touch (this constitutes a discontinuous exception, in other words the meaning is: but lesser offences are forgiven by the avoidance of grave sins). Truly your Lord is of vast forgiveness, for such [lesser sins] and for accepting repentance. The following was revealed regarding those who used to say, ‘[What of] our prayers, our fasting, and our pilgrimage!’. He knows you best [from the time] when He produced you from the earth, that is to say, [when] He created your father Adam from dust, and when you were hidden [fetuses] (ajinna is the plural of janīn) in the bellies of your mothers. Tafsir Jalalayn : Does he possess knowledge of the Unseen so that he sees?, [and therefore] from among such [knowledge] he is able to know that another person may bear the chastisement of the Hereafter for him? No! This was al-Walīd b. al-Mughīra, or someone else (the sentence beginning with a-‘indahu, ‘does he possess’, is the second object of the a-ra’ayta, ‘have you seen’, which has the significance of ‘inform Me!’). Shakir : So there covered them that which covered. Dr. Ghali : So that (there) He constantly enveloped it whatever He constantly enveloped. Tafsir Jalalayn : so that there covered them, of rocks afterwards, that which covered [them]: this is [purposely] left vague in order to inspire terror; in [sūrat] Hūd [it is stated]: We made their uppermost the nethermost, and We rained upon them stones of baked clay [Q. 11:82]. Tagalog : At ganoon din ang pamayanan ng sambayanan ni Lût na itinaob ito ng Allâh sa kanila, na inilagay Niya ang nasa itaas sa ibaba at pinaulanan Niya ng matinding pagpapaulan ng mga luwad na bato. 53:55Hassanor Alapa : Na anda ko limo o Kadnan ka i zasankaan ka? 1638 Muhsin Khan : Then which of the Graces of your Lord (O man!) will you doubt. Tagalog : Kung gayon, alin pa ba sa mga biyaya ng Allâh na iyong ‘Rabb’ na Tagapaglikha, O ikaw na tao, ang hindi mo pinaniniwalaan na iyong pinag-aalinlanganan? 53:56Hassanor Alapa : Giai na pangangalk 1639 (so Mohammad) a pd ko manga sogo’ a paganay Muhsin Khan : This (Muhammad SAW) is a warner (Messenger) of the (series of) warners (Messengers) of old. Shakir : This is a warner of the warners of old. Dr. Ghali : This is a Warner, of the earliest Warnings. Tafsir Jalalayn : This, Muhammad (s), is a warner, [in the tradition] of the warners of old, of their kind, that is to say, he is a messenger like messengers before him, sent to you just as they were sent to their peoples. Sahih International : Of it, [from those] besides Allah , there is no remover. Pickthall : None beside Allah can disclose it. Yusuf Ali : No (soul) but Allah can lay it bare. Shakir : There shall be none besides Allah to remove it. Dr. Ghali : Apart from Allah, none can lift it off. Tafsir Jalalayn : None, [no] soul, besides God can disclose it, that is to say, only He can disclose it and manifest it, as where He says: He alone shall reveal it, at its proper time [Q. 7:187]. Tagalog : At walang sinuman ang makapipigil nito bukod sa Allâh , at walang nakaaalam ng oras ng pagdating nito bukod sa Kanya. 53:59Hassanor Alapa : Ba phoon sankai a thotol na phammsa kano Muhsin Khan : Do you then wonder at this recital (the Quran)? Dr. Ghali : (While) you amuse yourselves? Tafsir Jalalayn : while you remain oblivious?, unmindful and heedless of what is required of you. Tagalog : Bagkus kayo ay naglilibang na tumatalikod mula rito? 53:62Hassanor Alapa : Na sojud kano ko Allāh ago simbaa niyo (Skaniyan).
