Shakir : The Lord of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, the Beneficent Allah, they shall not be able to address Him. Dr. Ghali : (From) the Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them, The All-Merciful; they possess (no power) of addressing Him. Tafsir Jalalayn : [from] the Lord of the heavens and the earth (read rabbi, ‘[from] the Lord of’, or rabbu, ‘[He is] the Lord of’) and all that is between them, the Compassionate One (likewise [read rahmāni or rahmānu], or read rahmānu with rabbi [for the preceding]), Whom, exalted be He, they, that is, creatures, will not be able to address, that is to say, not one of them will be able to address Him for fear of Him, Tagalog : Mula sa ‘Rabb’ na Tagapaglikha ng mga kalangitan at kalupaan, At sa anumang nasa pagitan ng dalawang ito, na Siya ay Pinakamahabagin sa daigdig at sa Kabilang-Buhay, na walang sinuman ang mangangahas na magsalita sa Kanya maliban sa kung ito ay Kanyang pahintulutan, 78:38Hassanor Alapa : Sa sagawii a makatindg so Jibrīl ago so manga malāikat a zasaap siran a da a makaptharo kiran inonta bo sa idinan skaniyan o Makalimoon (ko kaptharo) ago makatharo sa ontol Muhsin Khan : The Day that Ar-Ruh [Jibrael (Gabriel) or another angel] and the angels will stand forth in rows, none shall speak except him whom the Most Beneficent (Allah) allows, and he will speak what is right. Sahih International : The Day that the Spirit and the angels will stand in rows, they will not speak except for one whom the Most Merciful permits, and he will say what is correct. Pickthall : On the day when the angels and the Spirit stand arrayed, they speak not, saving him whom the Beneficent alloweth and who speaketh right. Yusuf Ali : The Day that the Spirit and the angels will stand forth in ranks, none shall speak except any who is permitted by (Allah) Most Gracious, and He will say what is right. Shakir : The day on which the spirit and the angels shall stand in ranks; they shall not speak except he whom the Beneficent Allah permits and who speaks the right thing. Dr. Ghali : On the Day when the Spirit and the Angels rise up in ranks, they will not speak, except him (to) whom The All-Merciful has given permission and who speaks (Literally: says) right. Tafsir Jalalayn : on the day (yawma is the adverbial qualifier for lā yamlikūna, ‘they will not be able to’) when the Spirit, Gabriel, or God’s hosts, and the angels stand arrayed (saffan is a circumstantial qualifier, in other words, mustaffīna). They, creatures, will not speak, except him whom the Compassionate One permits, to speak, and who says what is right, from among the believers and the angels: as if [meaning] that they will intercede for he whom He approves of. 78:39Hassanor Alapa : Gioto so gawii a bnar na sa taw a mabaya na kowa ko Kadnan iyan sa khandodan a apasa Muhsin Khan : That is without doubt the True Day, so, whosoever wills, let him seek a place with (or a way to) His Lord (by obeying Him in this worldly life)! Sahih International : That is the True Day; so he who wills may take to his Lord a [way of] return. Pickthall : That is the True Day. So whoso will should seek recourse unto his Lord. Yusuf Ali : That Day will be the sure Reality: Therefore, whoso will, let him take a (straight) return to his Lord! Shakir : That is the sure day, so whoever desires may take refuge with his Lord. Dr. Ghali : That is the True Day. So whoever decides, should seek a resorting to his Lord (i.e., by doing righteous deeds). Tafsir Jalalayn : That is the True Day, whose coming to pass is definite, namely, the Day of Resurrection. So whoever wishes [to], let him seek resort with his Lord, a return [to Him], that is to say, [let him] return to God by being obedient to Him, so that he may be secure from chastisement in it. 78:40Hassanor Alapa : Mataan a inilalang Ami rkano a siksa a marani sa sagawii a mailay o taw so nganin a inidawag o mbala a lima niyan (so pinggalbk iyan a manga dosa) na matharo o kafir a oba ako bo mimbaloy a bayank (sa di ako masiksa) 1919 Muhsin Khan : Verily, We have warned you of a near torment, the Day when man will see that (the deeds) which his hands have sent forth, and the disbeliever will say: "Woe to me! Would that I were dust!" Sahih International : Indeed, We have warned you of a near punishment on the Day when a man will observe what his hands have put forth and the disbeliever will say, "Oh, I wish that I were dust!" Pickthall : Lo! We warn you of a doom at hand, a day whereon a man will look on that which his own hands have sent before, and the disbeliever will cry: "Would that I were dust!" Yusuf Ali : Verily, We have warned you of a Penalty near, the Day when man will see (the deeds) which his hands have sent forth, and the Unbeliever will say, "Woe unto me! Would that I were (metre) dust!" Shakir : Surely We have warned you of a chastisement near at hand: the day when man shall see what his two hands have sent before, and the unbeliever shall say: O! would that I were dust! Dr. Ghali : Surely We have warned you of a near torment on the Day when a person will look at whatever his hands have forwarded, and the disbeliever will say, "Oh, would that I were dust!" Tafsir Jalalayn : Lo! We have warned you, O disbelievers of Mecca, of a chastisement that is near, the chastisement of the impending Day of Resurrection — for anything that is impending is [also] near — the day (yawma adverbially qualifies ‘adhāban, ‘a chastisement’, by describing it) when a person, [when] every person, will behold what his hands have sent ahead, of good and evil, and the disbeliever will say, ‘O (yā is a particle used to call attention to something) would that I were dust!’, in other words, and not be chastised. He says this when God, exalted be He, says to the beasts, after each of them has retaliated against the other, ‘Be dust!’.
